to be honest its just a cost cutting exercise for them. Think how much they will save in printing off the discs and sending them out!

IMO the monthly DD should attract a subsidy as its a completely automated system then and if you miss a payment your car tax is voided on the spot. ANPR cars update everyday so the DVLA would soon have your car flagged up.

I can never understand why they didnt just charge an admin fee of £5 for the 6month disc instead of a flat rate 10% as thats just greedy to me, but thats the gov isnt it Sad

I guess it also helps with all the service vehicles on the road that need to display a disc even though its 0 rated, and disabled discs as well. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

There will be a few small companies going bust over this. The amount of tax disc holders for sale on the bay is staggering.
Some of them are well made bits of engineering. I spent over £20 on a carbon one for the porker... Not a good investment as it turns out!
Paying monthly sounds good... If there is no premium that is. Previously..

Once they brought in ANPR it was only a matter of time, hopefully (say the man who now does 3k miles per year rather than 60k) they'll put it on fuel in a sort of PAYG way. Geoff

So they are going to charge you 5% extra for paying by Direct Debit? I always thought DD was supposed to be cheaper! And how do you KNOW that once you have paid for your electronic tax disc, that it has actually been updated on the system? I suppose when you get pulled by plod!
