United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black
Wanting to join the FFRR world :)

Hello

I am after some advice on a full fat purchase - I have worked my way up through most of the LR range - Discovery 3 (very early 54 plate spent more time with the dealer than with me !) and two RRS. I left the LR world 2 years ago to relocate to Poland and now find that I want to move back into the best LR has to offer.

Problem is I can't decide on the precise model to choose - was quite set on the idea of a 3.6TDV8 until I realised that almost every petrol station in Poland sells LPG so this opens up the world of 4.4 petrol and the 4.2 supercharged followed by an LPG conversion. What are everyone's thoughts ? Am I correct in understanding that the LPG conversion needs to offer a valve lube system to ensure everything runs smoothly ? Also is there a noticeable drop in power on the supercharged conversion (you can see which route my heads thinks I should go Wink )

Quite keen to have a "facelifted" model but this can be hard to spot in the Polish adverts as the year of registration often relates to the year it was registered in Poland as opposed to the year of build. As an easy spot when looking at the adverts was the "facelifted" model when they moved the ignition from the transmission tunnel area up to the dash and added the TR system ?

Finally can any body cast their expert eye over this advertised one on the Polish verison of autotrader

to save you all trying to translate in a nutshell it says 2007, 120km 4.4V8, RSE and a range of toys - has no badeg on rear tailgate so can't tell exact model, al so can't tell if badge on the glove box says Range Rover or Autobiography. Ignore the black wheels as I still have a set from the RRS to replace. Price is circa 17-18k

Thank you Smile

think that may be a Jag engined 4.4 V8 which apparently does NOT make for a good conversion to LPG. THe BMW lump though does.

There are some on the forum who have 4.2 SC on LPG and seem to be ok. A quick search will find you good and bad stories.

Can see the TR dial, so it's a Jag engine. The OP did a lot if colour coding. If you like that, no worries.

I looked into the LPG on Jag issue. Only consider it if you've got a garage that knows that model and that engine inside out. Based on your mileage, you'll need to weigh the cost of the conversion and potential to having the valves done against the fuel saved. Also think about where you'll be driving. On the motorway, the petrol Jag is actually quite good. Idling around town is a different story. Whistle

Its a Vogue SE spec'd car sir Thumbs Up Pretty much top of the range Thumbs Up

What's the benefits of LPG to you sir? Do you do lots of miles? Is Diesel expensive in Poland? etc etc etc as my personal view is the risks are quite high sticking LPG on a FF so go into it with your eyes wide open my friend Thumbs Up

Thank you for all the info - thats why this forum is great.

An answer to some of the questions raised

Mileage won't be that high mainly backwards and forwards to the office and running around - be lucky to see 800 miles a month and then probably 2 or 3 runs over to the UK a year approx 2000 mile round trip so i can't see me doing more than 12k per year to be honest. So LPG may not be a cost effective option as I haven't checked conversion prices here in Poland yet.

There won't be that much motorway driving unless driving to the UK so mainly roads averaging 40-50 mph and in town driving.

Diesal price is around 1.20 gbp per litre, same price as petrol and LPG is about 55p per litre..

That car is a bit over colour coded for my tastes but it can be restored to its former glory via the delights of ebay and DHL

Think we can discount the LPG option so just left with the petrol vs diesel option now.

Just to confirm what Dolphinboy said, two LPG installers I deal with do not recommend the Jag engine for conversion - only the BMW. Wink Cheers

jedyna dobra droga to 4.4 diesel zmapowany co daje okolo 370KM ciut lepsze spalanie i duzo usmiechu w czasie jazdy

ale w Polandii to musi kosztowac kolosalne pieniadze

the only good way is mapped 4.4 diesel which gives about 370HP slightly better combustion and a lot of my smile while driving

Polandii but it has cost the colossal money

Great thank you i'll have a look at the site now.

Probably look at it in English, used Polish ebay once without the translator, wasn't overly successful ... Managed to order a door handle for a mondeo 16 times with cash on delivery as the payment option - not sure who was more annoyed the courier or my wife when she had to explain her husband was just a silly Englishman Rolling with laughter
