The true dateless plates are the most valuable, the lower the number the better.

The values are based upon how many no's in that format have been issued and how many people in the country have those initials - this info is gathered from the electoral roll. The more people with the same initials in the country the higher is the value of the plate. The larger number plates dealers have a programme which can search this info very very quickly.

I have quite a few plates, some are on my vehicles, others are on retention as an investment, ranging between £600 to £15k for a 5 plate

but can it narrow the list down to those who can afford it. No point in selling a £15k AB1 plate if nearly everyone with AB initials are skint ! Lol

The best investment plate is as explained above - but its a long term, high risk investment, as you're looking for just that one buyer. The best 'business' plates to sell are novelty ones, that are not too expensive, which anyone and everyone could have if they so wish. Like mine, B3EEE is a novelty plate - unless your initials are EEE !! So any words that can be made out of the registration number, or as close as possible, are the quicker sellers. 5 EXY, 25 EXY, H4 PPY etc  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Mine is V8 TDX which given the fact mine is a V8 diesel works quite well. I want to put my other one on at some point so may consider flogging this one, just not sure I can be bothered with the hassle of swapping it all over Worse things happen at sea! Well thats what swmbo said when WRENS came to sea!!!

spend £280k on an original work of art or bars of gold - thats an investment

buying a private number plate and selling at a massive profit is pure luck

Most of Reg Transfers sales are the £250 plates available at DVLA. They sell them for £350-£450 and THEN buy them from DVLA, which anyone can do in the first place, but new buyers assume that if a website has them advertised, then its theirs to sell - and most of the time thats wrong. I always advise people that if they find a plate on Reg Transfers, and the like, to check the DVLA site first - quite a few times they've saved a couple hundred quid.  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Not really interested in making a huge profit, I buy my plates because I like them, and buy at the right price and therefore make sure they will return some investment or at least hold their value - not really interested in saving a couple of hundred quid either to be honest - got more to concern myself with running a business Thumbs Up
