2006 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
Any Ideas !

Three weeks ago sat morn went to bank in TD6 come out half hour later turns over but won't start, recovered to indie. He rings me mon says disconnected and reconnected battery and its running fine. Park it up for two weeks at airport come back starts and runs fine every day all this week? Put RR on drive after 50 mile drive back today, wash it turns over but won't start again, I have disconnected live terminal and reconnected battery as previous, no joy, battery is good, and had a fuel pump fitted approx six moths ago. Any ideas appreciated guys as I'm baffled ???

If it turns over but will not fire stop after a only few turns (ASAP) then get out central lock and get back in and try again.

My best guess is its the fuel pump relay sticking and not letting fuel through. They cost £2 and take 3 seconds to replace. Will be found on one of the fuse boxes. Thumbs Up

RE_LOCKING seems to un-stick the relay in most cases.

PS: You could get a friend to listen for the fuel pump operating (buzzing) with the back seats up to see if it runs when false cranking....

If it quiet then its the relay or fuel pump itself but relay most likely.

Relay is worth looking at Thumbs Up Serves both fuel pumps.

Item 5 on the diagram below, just above rear fuse board.

Gazellio/Niceday...Thanks for the speedy response guys, relay advice and diagram much appreciated, I will replace the relay and go from there, and the lock unlock is good info also. Well I have just been out and tried it again three hours later, and the RR has started as normal ? I was thinking it could be damp/water related as when it happened three weeks ago it was damp conditions, and then today I have washed it and filled washer bottle with hose, and sprayed engine area by accident. Though I have drove it daily as usual on a 100 mile round trip on m/way and a couple of mornings the rain has been atrocious, so maybe not ?

Very unlikely to be damp or water. Get the relay replaced first. Thumbs Up

PS: Range Rovers/D3/4/rrs tend to catch first time if not starved of fuel. Very unlikely to start if you keep cranking it.

This is what mine did yesterday and it turned out to be the fuel pump. Could it be a faulty pump? I got no error message on the display but there was a code logged for the pump when we put it on Autologic.

@Paul,, could be faulty fuel pump but replaced that about six months ago, so unless its gone again, though prior to replacing pump last time it ran rough but always started. I use it daily for 100 mile round trip on M/Way and it runs fine, just had a problem with starting twice, its run fine too all weekend with no problems. I have just dropped it off tonight at Indy so should find out tomoz as they are plugging it in (and replacing fuel relay) I will let you all know the outcome

Which fuel pump did you change? There is high pressure and low pressure pumps on your TD6 High pressure for starting low pressure for running... If you changed the one in the tank then try the small one under the side cover underneith the car (as thats the one that creates the high pressure for starting)

@craig.. I changed the external fuel pump outside the tank, today it's been on the diagnostic and thrown up two faults, crank sensor, and fuel pressure regulator? These two items are being fitted tomoz Tues, oh and I have had the fuel relay replaced so hopefully all sorted and ready for winter and hopefully no more issues. I can't be doing with the inconvenience to be honest although the cost is a bummer also ! Big Cry

I had previously an L200 and used it on the same journey for five years and in that time I only changed the injector Loom which cost £26, I bet I will beat that by some margin tomoz! Sad

when my work diesel van would crank but not start the rac man needed to know if it was an inhibitor/alarm fault of a fuel pressure fault. he uncoupled the airfilter and produced a small handbag sized aerosol of nivea deodorant. its a bit like easy start.....but easier to buy in an emergency.. he sprayed a few seconds worth into the inlet manifold, and asked me to crank it. had it fired a bit, he would have known it was fuel starved, as it was now trying to start, if it didn't (it didnt) he knew it was alarm based, so he disconnected battery, and touched terminals together, replaced and presto, first time. started. he told me all to reasons to use it, but I cant quite remember the complete theory etc.
when marooned this could help you where to be looking/thinking etc. if still not starting, you can use the rest of the can to spray a jet of flames into the window and walk away. and kick key into the bushes. Rolling Eyes

Well I have got the RR back tonite and all seems fine, I have had the following replaced and fitted

Fuel Pressure Switch
Crank Sensor Switch
Relay Blue On Bulkhead
Fuel Pump Relay In Fuse Box

Hopefully now it's well sorted


@Paul...although I appreciate the RR I do miss that L200!
