Ok so I parked up at the recycling centre to off load a lot of empty glass bottles, parked up behind this old banger with PLEANTY of space between it and mine, got to the rear of the FF and.....bump FF rocks back and forward a little......

Damage to the FF, well all I can see is a scuff mark and a few light scratches which Im hoping will polish out, damage to hers...well I cant tell the difference, was a battered old thing, and the driver was too!

Ok I have her insurance details (I did not give mine), should I just make a clame/report her to her insurance, even if I dont make a clame for a respray? t only a slight black mark and hoping tcut will do its magic

sorry to hear it mate, but the moment that you tell your insurer, you policy will be raised, even though you were not to blame in the slightest. to them you are a higher risk now. if I put myself in a similar situation, is to call in on the address and ask for some cash. if their insurer knew the same info then their policy will rise too. get a local spray shop to estimate a repair, so you know what your talking about. (not dealer) and even if you don't tell your insurer, your reg could be linked to his/hers in their claim on database sometimes its best to suffer a kick in the balls every now and then, and sort it out yourself, and stay a low risk. -that's just my own tuppny worth. http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_thumbs.gif
p.s mine suffered a front bumper 'nerf' whilst away from car. about 6 inches in diameter and apart from a couple of very fine stratches that I can hardly see, it all buffed out nice, the paint on rangies is good stuff!

If you are sure it will polish out then forget about the insurance. It will be recorded that you were in an accident and you will have to say that you made a claim for a few years to come. Your premiums will probably go up, even though you were not at fault.....  Previously..

don't tell the insurance my wife's car was hit in a car park recently and we claimed the other persons insurance and now our premium is going up and I will need to tell them for the next few years

Just to re iterate the comments of others - don't get an insurance company involved at all - "Cutting your nose off to spite your own face" - you will then be perceived to be a higher risk . . .

But on an insurance point, i notified my insurance of a potential non fault claim once, but it made no difference at renewal time. Fixed it myself in the end even though it was £600 of damage. Someone hit me when parked! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I work in IT for an insurance company and it was only this very afternoon I posed this question.

If either party involves their insurance company there will be an open claim for both parties, irrespective of blame.

If you do not inform your insurance company, the open claim will remain open and will be open when you renew, so your renewal price will increase.

If you tell your insurance company, they can immediately close the open claim as it's not your fault. Hence your renewal will not be affected later.

Of course, if nobody tells an insurer, it doesn't matter, but I'm pretty sure most policies state you have to inform them......

Insurance companies have got it all stitched up. Any hint of a claim, whether you to blame or not, and they've got you by the short and curlies! Previous cars:

Just to add my voice here - My FF was hit in the car park at work about 2 years ago - got it all on CCTV, tracked down the miscreant (taxi) who drove off....

Notified Insurance - and told them that the other party was paying for the repairs - other party paid me cash to get the repairs done - I notified insurance that it was all sorted and no claim was made. Come renewal time, the price had doubled - rang them to find out why - because there was a claim recorded on the policy - explained but they said even though no money was involved it was a claim. Did the usual ring round and finally got a decent enough price - but everyone I spoke to knew there was a claim

So, even though I did all the work, chased up the errant driver and in the face of some quite severe intimidation from the cab firm, got my money and had the (small amount of bumper) damage fixed professionally, they still want me to pay for it.

I can understand why people drive without insurance sometimes.

In a similar case, my SC was parked and reversed into by an older gentleman who drove off... Cought up with him 5miles away as he was dropping his wife off at the WI... "well that's what bumpers are for" quaffed the older gentleman as I held my tongue... £3600 later and his insurance covered it... A small bump can do a lot of unseen damage (especially when the insurance companies won't repair bumpers now!)

Agreed Craig - I was quite lucky - a scuff and a broken bumper retaining clip was about the limit of the damage and he caught it bang on the right hand corner - so broke the clip that hold the right hand side section of the bumper where it heads towards the wheel arch.

£250 covered the respray and the clip was about a tenner IIRC.

It was still a pain in the bum.
