Do we really think the 5.0 will depreciate less than a tdv8 I mean really?

Yes the 5.0 is desirable as a top of the range rover but just like its predecessor the 4.2 it will drop and keep dropping here in the UK simply because they are what they are.

A tdv8 will give the driver 90% of the experience but without the fuel headache.

I've owned a SC, tdv8 and borrowed a 5.0 and as a daily driver I know what one I'd choose...as great as the 5.0 is...constant fill ups take away the shine and desirability of ownership. That's why they will always depreciate more than the tdv8 variants.

The 5.0 is a lovely machine as was and still is the 4.2 but as prices firm up on facelift s and drop on new models the 5.0 unfortunately being the big supercharger will suffer badly and potential suitors should bare this in mind.

For the few who done give a Censored for fuel or depreciation buy one in a heartbeat but unfortunatly this demographic is very small reducing desirability in the short to long term...just my tuppence. Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

point taken Gaz, but lets see in a years time where the 5.0 will be vs a similar aged and spec'd tdv8

I'd put money on the diesel every time retaining its value better over time.


My views are based on similar spec'd vehicles i.e. Vogue SE or Autobiography


Just my experience across all marques in general (excluding limited production run vehicles)

A remapped 3.6 is more than enough power for the FF any thing more is overkill you may as well buy a performance car or a more focussed sport 4x4 like a cayenne turbo. I think keenly priced 4.4 Tdv8's will force down the 5.0s quicker as owners begin to trade up against L402...my humble and exclusive opinion. Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

I'd say 3.6 would depreciate more if we are talking 10MY varients.

Reasoning being,

1. people would rather spend a bit more and get a 4.4
2. avg joe would think about its fuel cost and so forth compared to the 4.4/5.0
3. the 5.0 is more sought after as not so many are bought new in this country as in others
4. the 5.0 has a lot more toys on average than the average 3.6... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Thorne-Adwick-Crawley-Adwick-Thorne was the commute in a disco 4 and at a fairly decent average speed as well...

average of about 26mpg most of the time from the SDV6 engine, usually a bit less as the speedlimiter keeps it steady at 117kmh Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Not sure the above makes sense. You say "I'd say 3.6..." then state your reasons relating to the 4.4 and then say the 5.0 has more toys. ???

If your constantly cruising at 117mph (or trying too) then I am afraid that I hope you lose your licence and soon. Somebody innocent will be badly hurt at some stage. Autobahns maybe but not crowded UK motorways. Shocked
