I've had my 57plate 3.6 TDV8 for a year now and my average is 19.8mpg over 10,000 miles. its mostly around town so it doesn't seem to bad to me. I ware lead boots too. 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

Cleaning maf sensors will improve general running and should be part of general maintenance anyway. If yours is running rough I would do it. |

Our cars are notoriously thirsty round town - they have to be due to the laws of physics. Think about it stop / start of a lump of iron two and a half tonne in weight!

I know this topic is TDV8, but (for comparison) my tuned 4.2 S/C figures have been 18-19mpg around town / commute and 19mpg on a recent 300mile weekend jaunt to Devon and not hanging around one bit. 22mpg is easily possible with restraint and a constant speed.

My previous Vogue was a 4.4 and it did about 14 round town and I never got more than 20 on any run. I have an XKR 4.2 which is only about 1600Kg as its all aluminium and that only does about 18 round town and about 22 on a run so its all relative. What I will say is that residual value on the petrols is far worse than diesel so put your extra savings towards the depreciation not fuel if that makes sense...... |

Not really a fair comparison Jason, but my nine year old 4.4 petrol does late teens around town, but steady 70 up and down motorway networks produces 24 to 26 depending on weather conditions. My personal opinion would be to zero computer at J21, go north or south for a fifty mile round trip and then see what FF is doing. I would imagine you should be high twenties if I can get circa 25 from my gas guzzler? |
