Lazy starter

Hi there everyone. I have recently purchased a l322 td6. I have a problem that when I start it first thing it has a job to turn over. Once its started its fine, starts no problem untill i leave it for a few hours. I trickle charged it for a few hour a couple of days ago and no problem starting. Ive multimetered the battery 12.7 fine, and 14.4 when running, fine. So im thinking battery drain somewhere. The red light on the sat nav in the back keeps coming on and off when I'm fiddling around with bits and bobs and keys aren't in the ignition, is this right .?
Can I disconnect the sat nav and still use the radio or does the sat nav have to connected ?
Also I don't use it every day, only 2-3 times a week
Regards
Steve

try a drop test on the battery ..although its reading over 12 volts this might go down dramatically when a load is put on it. ... - .- -.

I sometimes wonder if as these cars get older the engine earth strap connections get corroded and add to starting problems as described. I also wonder if it adds to electrical gremlins related to the engine and transmission.
As well as checking the battery its worth connecting a jump lead between the battery -ve terminal and a suitable bolt etc on the engine and seeing whether or not starting improves.
Having had a similar problem in the past on another vehicle I have recently added a heavy earth cable connected between the engine/gearbox and the earth stud in the engine bay to minimize future problems.

It's all to easy to point at the battery.....like I did !

I have since had mine in for a full electrical check looking at FSR, other post and pre start up features. The drop test proved the one though showing the battery is goosed...

So a new battery it is. I have since then looked at recommendations on here such as Bosch S5 and Varta, plus the OEM Exide Premium and as the car is in for a service I am not rushing until the weekend to sort a battery.

I think it's going to be Varta though Thumbs Up Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Thanks for the quick replies. Haven't done a drop test yet but tested it first thing this morning without having started it first and read 11.95. Did a work on it, tailgate open and doors for a couple of hours and down to 11.85, but still haven't started it yet... I will try the drop and see what happens.... Thumbs Up

Might find it very sluggish to start if the doors have been open for a few hours. It tends to have a fairly detrimental effect...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Ok did the drop test. Was at 11.7 to start then dropped to 9.3 and didn't start , flat as a turd....
Trickle charged it for 1 hour, now back to 12.4... Tried to start but nothing ..... I think it's Censored !!! Gonna take it off and give it a good charge to see if it will take it but I think not Confused Confused

Your battery is well and truly goosed

Your problem will go when you bite the bullet and invest in that new battery.... Stop messing about and prolonging your agony!!!

We have all been there - done that - got the tee shirt etc!!

AGM is my recommendation and it will cost you £125 quid but you will not have any more hassle!
