My old mans way back in 1974 I had just passed my test the car was 2 weeks old and he wanted me to drive him and his mates up to Bonar Bridge in Sutherland for a week long fishing trip...we stayed in an old bothy which was part of a big estate and my job after a days fishing was to ferry them all down to the pub at night and then bring them back again...great times and way back then driving something like a Range Rover at 17 was magical, bit like now I suppose. The car below was virtually identical to what he had, he kept it for 2 years and then sold it to a well known Scottish Sheriff of the day.

I landed a job with a Rover dealer at the age of 17... I was crap at everything so they used to send me out delivering cars and collecting courtesy cars... So in 1989 I was delivering brand new 3.9 classics everyday...

1974 at Appleyards Kelvinside garage where I was collecting a spare part for my fathers Rover P5B. Some plonker in a mustard Range Rover blocked the P5B in the car park so I managed to find him and he gave me the keys to move his 3.5 manual, non carpeted, cloth seated R.R. I was awe struck and spent 15 minutes inside just enjoying it

The first classic was when my Disco 1 300tdi went if for a service at the main dealer in 1995 and had the RR as a courtesy car, a 3.9 and thought then I must relive my dream, sadly I didn't get there with the classic or P38 ( too many horror stories about them.)
So I stuck with my everyday motor, a v8 Disco 1 ( until Friday ) which I've had since 2000.

The first FF we took out was in 2005, a td6, Landrover where selling of a load of stock at Gaydon at an open day, the rear car park was full of FF's and one colour picked our eyes, big time, monti carlo blue td6, but sadly it was sold. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

I was 26 and living in Andover at the time.

Back then, I'd just sold an immaculate Peugeot 405 Mi-16 to free funds to buy our first house and had hurriedly bought a well-used Scirocco.

Common failure on those MKII cars were the bulkhead where the clutch cable acted on. Mine was failing horribly, as well as the clutch, so I took it to a local chap to do the necessary.

I needed a loaner and he had a battered T-plate 3-door Classic in blue with velour upholstery and Rostyle wheels. Gorgeous!!

I had that for 2 days and didn't want to give it back. Seed well and truly sown. Si. <This is my name.

A 1983 Classic, black exterior, cloth sand interior, Dutch Vogue version, V8 petrol automatic. Wish I hadn't had to sell it because it would have been a great car to start my collection but the money to keep it going and space etc. were not with me at that time . MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

My brother in law went to work in Abu Dhabi in 1976 and in 1979 I went to visit for a week and his daily run around was a two door classic which is identical to the one in Wackyjims post! I drove it all week around the sandy roads and I was well and truely hooked!

I convinced my dad to buy one when I got back and he couldnt afford it at that time but he bought one about 7 years later off our family doctor and he had it until he died about 5 years later. I inherited it but couldn't afford to run it as it did about 8 to the gallon!! I said I would have one one day and I've now had three!

I wish I still had the classic though as there was something very magical about it! I've had loads of other cars but there was something special - very special!

i drove a friends 2000 P38 DSE which got me hooked! would love to own a 2 door classic but loving my L322 at the moment

1992 - Invited LR Germany and their guests (to include us) to drive a whole fleet of new P38 4.6 vogues on our tank driving range in Germany. Even with ordinary tyres on, they handled everything we threw at them, including a tank ditch full of water up to the bonnet and 60 degree climbs.

The highlight of the day was being warned by the LR rep that the Officers' driving was too "cowboyish", especially ploughing through the tank ditch at speed, causing water to flow over the roof!! He threatened to stop us driving if we continued.

THe next time round we saw him stalled in the water ditch so 7 of us "swamped" past him at speed. The bow wave was like a miniature tsunami. LMFAO!!

We also had first choice at buying them when they disposed of them. Could have had one for 44,000 DM which was then 3DM to the £, so £15,000! if only I had the funds then!

When I was an apprentist mechanic the boss had a 79 classic in brown but the rear chassis was roten and the steel pannels eithe side of the Ali boot floor had rotted out too. It was my job to weld it up and get road worthy again when the garage was quite. The fuel tank was out so it was ran using a jerry can so to move it was such an event but all part of the charm. I worked there for my full apprentaship but Unfortunately it never made it back on the road and ended up as a bobtailed trailer

My old mans brown A375MKV, 5 door classic, apparently it was a vogue, 3.5 V8, ventillated footwells, first had a shot at the age of 17, was pretty knackered by then, To be honest, well over 150k on the clock, but was a hoot to drive once you got used to the lag in pick up from stationary. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

My TDV8 at the tender age of 46 in ............2012!

The first Landrover I ever went in was driven by my dad, out in Tanzania back in 1968, with me at the tender age of 3. Something must have bitten me then (not the mozzies or tsetse flies either!!) as I've hankered after Landies ever since.

Then in 1990, I got my hands on a 1973 K Reg Range Rover Classic. A 3.5 Litre V8, Three Door, in White with Black Vinyl roof and velour seats. It had been almost rusting away, being used as a skip at a nearby Camping Site. Got it virtually free, as it needed a tyre sorting out, had no working headlights (a new switch was all it needed) and the sump gasket had gone so it was leaking (gushing) oil! Once I got it all sorted, it was an absolute beauty to run!!

However, the following year I went to Uni to do a course in Engineering. Couldn't afford to keep or run it (bloody thirsty engine!!) so had to part with it. Did have a 1974 Series II SWB Landrover for a while, but once I graduated I knew what I wanted.

Got a Disco 1 300TDi for a year (2011 - 2012 as a temporary stopgap motor for the bad weather) then last October I made the big step up and got my FFRR TD6. Now I feel like I've made it to the big league!!
