Two things to be aware of, first you would need to properly purge the AC circuit of refrigerant before disconnecting any pipe work and the second is ensuring the AC pump drive belt does not also drive any other ancillary device e.g. Water pump, Power steering pump and or alternator. If it does the belt will be too long when your AC pump is off the car. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

It's a separate belt mate as there isn't one on there at the moment. |

Then, once the system is purged of refrigerant, you should be good to go Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

Quick Fit or some Halfords can do it & if you sweet talk them by promising them you'll get them to recharge your system, they may wave a charge. If neither of those options are nearby, then a mobile AC service is likely your best bet. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

If you drive with the AC lines open, be sure to seal them properly (lots of duct tape, for instance). You do not want any additional moisture in your AC...

Well it was a pretty straight forward process! Although there was one sphincter twitching moment when I went to start the Rangie after I'd finished and it wouldn't even turn over!!!
