Gearbox full of neutral!!

I noticed when driving wifeys car recently that on slowing almost to a halt the gearbox would clonk slightly when changing to first gear. I asked my indie for a price for a gearbox flush thinking it might help, but as yet haven't gotten around to it.

My wife mentioned the gearbox having a funny moment a few weeks ago but when I took it for a drive I couldn't find anything wrong.

Well today its back apparently, three times so far. Big Cry

My wife describes it as on slowing (from something approaching 140mph knowing my wife Rolling Eyes ) almost to a stop at a junction and then repressing the accelerator, the engine revs as if neutral has been selected. It then manages to find the gear and continues on.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Could it be the linkage from the selector.

Have a search as there is a fair bit on here about it.

Hope this helps. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

+1 for checking the linkage first.
Had a similar issue in a car I test drove. It would drop into neutral under braking. and would eventually clunk into drive when you inadvertently revved it to move on. Its easy to tell if its the linkage, just gently push the gear lever towards neutral while in drive and see if it drops into neutral. In the car I test drove just the slightest touch would drop it into neutral.

Thanks guys, have just been out to check myself and it doesn't take much at all for neutral to be selected.

My wife also confirmed that it only does it on slowing......so similar to an LMP car braking for Mulsanne Corner!!

Will read up on the other posts though and maybe pop it in to the Indie.

Thanks very much!

. . . I stand to be corrected, but believe the ZF 6 Speed is famous for the downshift to first "clunk" - mine does it

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
