Does that mean you are seeing the plan through or you are not?

Personally I salute your idea and the fact that you were even considering something so completely bonkers. Thumbs Up When getting a TDV8 was sooooo much easier, sensible and cheaper.

Rolling Eyes

I think that is the standard response a LR dealership gives in any circumstance? - Servicing, warranty work or any other enquiry... Laughing

@ VogueDiesel - Like the other forum members, I think you are a bit of a lunatic to even consider doing what you are thinking about doing Shocked

Whistle but...

... if you do manage to pull it off Twisted Evil you may well acheive cult/hero status amongst other FFRR TD6 owners! Bow down

GOOD LUCK Thumbs Up

this has already been tried and extensively covered on another RR forum about 3 years ago. The chap got the motor installed and then abandoned it - there was no way he could mate it to the gearbox or get it to run - to much derision from forum members and a waste of a huge amount of time and cash.

I just cannot remember which LR forum it was.

Red rag to a bull for me saying something can't be done... then again the Jag engine I put in my series II only cost £50 so its not quite the same unless you've won the lottery and are.....nope.. Shocked what am I thinking...If I won the lottery I'd have a 2010 for each day of the week Laughing

Nice pipe dream none the less!

BMW M57 Engine swapping ....

Replacing an older RR BMW M57 with a newer BMW M57 ? Really.

I would wager it could well be less expensive to simply go out and purchase a new RR TDV8.

Absolutely nothing is compatible between the old and the new. The complexity and cost of the electronics alone would probably cost more than your current RR is worth (and I don't even know what model it is).

Pretty well every component is in some way related to those electronics, and if it isn't an exact match, it simply is not going to work.

Think computers. Pop an Apple App into a Windows OS and watch what happens. In short - nothing. And that is what will happen in an attempt to do a bit of mixing and matching with ECUs (i.e. computers).

Cut your losses, lash out and purchase a brand new RR TDV8. It will definitely be far more reliable, and quite probably less expensive.

Sell the car and buy a petrol V8? The mpg isn't all that different and coupled with the price difference of the purchase price plus difference in the cost of fuel.

Then you can talk about swapping the M62 for the S62 Very Happy

Old thread revival alert!!!

Would it not be possible to pull across the turbos from the twin turbo version and bolt them on? may be it would require the exhaust manifold and a bit of jiggery pokery but is there enough room in the engine bay for them and how does the ecu interact with the standard single turbo as surely if you go to a twin turbo route and then get the engine chipped a few more nm's could be squeezed out of it im sure Smile

that is possible you would need to uprate the fuel pump and find someone that can re-programe your ecu but id say a lot less bonkers than the first idea mentioned in this thread....but could you not just change the turbo for a bigger one get a new manifold fabricated to fit it and then youll have the same effect "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"
