Seat pressed me against steering wheel while driving

Hi Rangenistas,

had a nice drive today! Shocked 2003er L322 4.4L petrol Vogue

Suddenly without any warning the driver seat moves forward until end position, also the back rest moves steep in front and I was pressed against the steering wheel and my knees against the dash....
I am 1.90m and this seat position is for bonsai pygmies !!!
You can imagine how to park and unfold my bones to get out of the car.

Tried everything, fuse nr. 20 = 30A out and a new one in, locked the car and tried again.
No reaction. Knob for seat base and back rest is dead, switches for head rest and Lordosepillow working well
Memory 1-3 also moved the seat into three different positions.

Someone have had that fault? Great yellow plug under seat looks fine....

Single switches available or only the complete switch panel of the driver seat ? XJC, RRV8, Series1 86 and 107% of real pleasure

The head rest and lumber pillow are not memory controlled and don't run through the seat ECU so that's why these remain unaffected.

Double check all seat related connections and clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. The air is very humid at the moment - do you leave the A/C on all the time? It dries out the air and protects electrical components from the moisture.

This used to be a common occurrence on the Classics because the seat switches were by the seatbelt socket and crumbs/drinks/dust would get into the switch and short it.

A disconnect of the battery may also help by re-setting the memory module.

My Father had this on his Ford Granada some years back, he said initially he thought he was having a stroke!

Second time it happened he realised it was due to the huge bundle of keys in his jacket pocket activating the switch Laughing

Maybe some Russian spies have infiltrated the car and implanted a remote control... did you check for characters watching nearby with their mac's on and funny spy type hats Very Happy

If I think of anything constructive I'll come back Arrow I'll get me coat...

On a serious note this isn't funny.

Thanks Dan,

yes A/C is on all the time in automatic mode, but the hedgehog resistor is defect and so the blower is working only at the lowest gear.
I will disconnect the battery and try a complete resetting. Also when battery is disconnected, I will pull the yellow plug and give him a shot of contact spray..
IŽll keep you informed...

Update:

Disconnected the battery , used contactspray for the plugs and connectors under the seat, forced a reset, but unfortunately without success.
Still both main switches without function.

ECU or switch panel defect. Does each front seat have its own ECU and where? maybe possible to swap for a test?

Any other ideas? XJC, RRV8, Series1 86 and 107% of real pleasure

It's only a small thing to add but on my car the head rest is controlled by the memory function. 2008 MY Supercharged

Mine had done this, one time similar to what you described, another time the steering wheel telescoped outwards and pitched into the full down position.

I pulled the seat control panel off on the seat and cleaned all the contacts... Plus inside the seat I discovered a multi plug half fit. I had to remove the seat backing to access it, but I plugged it back in and electrical taped both multi plugs and haven't had the problem since.

There is also a relay behind the fuse box that can foul up and cause issues... It requires removing interior parts and the fuse box itself to access.

Its a minor thing, probably barely relevant, but in my 7 series I get this, I have yet to encounter it with my FFRR.
Usually it is a mobile phone/key/wallet stirking the memory switch and causing the seat and steering wheel to go demented.
