Hand brake shoes - warning !

Due to corroded brake discs I had to purchase a set of new hand brake shoes. I did not purchase the genuine Land Rover ones but opted for a set of Mintex. When I tried to fit them I ended up snapping the top retaining spring as well as cutting myself. Anyway - booked into my local garage (ex Mercedes technicians) as I felt that seeing as the shoes are the same as the Mercedes ML ,R and M class (as well as Tourareg - all listed on the sticker at the end of the packaging) they will have the 'knack' for fitting them. Well 3 hours and much alteration of the shoes (friction material chamfer and grinding of the metal eiself , etc ,they finally got them to fit (and also £135 lighter) - to be fair they did ask if they were genuine as they have encountered this problem before with the non-genuine L322's handbrake shoes ! So a word of warning - stick with genuine LR if you need to change yours - saves a lot of time , heartache , swearing and loss of blood Shocked

If I recall the genuine ones were only about 6 quid more expensive than copy ones from mintex? Shocked
