Stopped the front brake pads squeaking

I did my front pads and discs back in March 2012, all was good for the first few 1000 miles or so but soon after and when hot its like being on a London bus with the "in traffic squeak"..........very uncouth

The pads are Mintex and have read they can squeak.......

However did a quick brake service last week, clean, new copper grease, extra chamfer on the pads etc

............but still they squeaked Big Cry so i decided to change them away from Mintex

As luck would have it found a chap selling some genuine LR pads on the Bay but for a mere £30........bargain Thumbs Up

Fitted and so far all quiet on the western front, what i did notice is that the pads are made by Textar which are cheaper than the LR labelled ones...............unless you get a bargain like I did

Will keep you posted on the dreaded squeak but so far looking good

done the pad and disc on my 2005 vogue, changed from the solid disc to a drilled and grooved one and had these brake pads http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200750377059?ssP...1439.l2649 fitted...and ohh lord what a nightmare,,squeaking even more than before, used mercedes grease at the back of the pads but that didn't help,,funny thing is i only changed the old disc and pads because they where squeaking,so after spending money and doing the work, guess what,...the squeak is now louder, will just have to put up with it.. Mintex pads always squeak in my experience unless you use the mintex grease then no probs at all, its about 2.50 a tube & does several sets. Most manufacturers advise not to use copper grease as it can affect the ABS sensors & cause intermitent faults if it comes into contact with them. Very Happy

Changed my discs and pads all round with Juratec from one of the site sponsors. Excellent quality and saved nearly £350 on Land Rover prices Shocked Lovely and smooth and no noise what-so-ever ! Remember - all brakes make a noise - it's just that they are so high pitched that normally we cannot hear them and luckily doesn't drive dogs mad Wink

Juratec Thumbs Up Straightforward after market company - very few issues with them

Just a note about some of the brands mentioned here....

Mintex - Owned by TMD Friction.
Textar - Owned by TMD Friction.
Pagid - Owned by TMD Friction ECP has sole licence to use the name in the UK but can put own product in box.
Ferodo - Owned by Federal Mogul, respectable manufacturer but the product will be different to OE fitment.
TRW - Massive company, respected supplier to many VMs, make the calipers for many FFRR but not the pad material.

My point - Well none really other than you may be surprised how small this manufacturing market is, lots of boxing for others and so lots of brand engineering.

We buy a few brands, none of them keep me awake at night and you can be assured we will change anything you don't get on with without a fight. Paul Redding
