My growing amount of non spring sprung cars....

I seem to be collecting cars that other people would normally scrap Very Happy

To this end I now have a Xantia mk1 TD Desire Hatch that I brought home from Lincoln and is having a decent amount of bodywork done to chop out the rust and get it good enough to do at least another 5-10yrs on the road and has had some hydraulic work done and just needs a service and an ABS sensor for its MOT next week.

And I have got from Stockon-on-Tees the other week.

She had lost her aux belt tensioner so wasn't too happy Sad
Well I picked her up and brought her over to a certain Citroen XM lover not too far from me and he set to work on fixing that issue as well as an ABS fault, a display bulb needed replacement, a wheel bearing and a calliper bolt issue.
She has no AC and no Leather but is in very good nick for a '97 2.5td VSX with the just run in mileage of 194,000 Smile
Shes got a years ticket and will be getting an MOT on Monday and then offered up for sale Sad I'll be sad to see her go as i
I'm getting used to the cruise control and flexibility of the engine but as I have been offered a few others now with the toys I want like AC&leather then I'm happy knowing that she will be looked after as her current service history so far is an inch thick with some manually written out sheets to show exactly what was done and when for a good few years Smile
The space inside is massive yet for such an older car the noise at speed isn't that noticable.
She picks up very well but could do with a longer 5th gear IMO. And the ride... well its bloody great and a real wafting car that needs to be ridden in to be believed over the state of this countries roads!

More pictures here for anyone interested and interior ones coming as soon as I've spent an evening hoovering her out and cleaning all the glass inside and out.

Ticked over to 194,000 today and she still purrs well.

Its great staying in 5th all the way down to 25mph and it not having any vibrations or such like. the balancers do a darn good job and it pulls very sweetly.

I reckon if citroen had done a 6speed with VNT turbo it would be a more popular engine. Never mind the fact it has more radiators than i can count properly!
It even has charge cooling! how many production estate cars have that lol FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Have a hankering for a cx dtr turbo 2 safari......

I Remember my uncle had one in the late 80's early 90's and was advertised as the fastest diesel estate on thu road. And was enormous with it.

Arent many around anymore unfortunately and only seen a few rot boxes on ebay..... Might get googling.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Ctc they do go for a lot of miles and 250k isn't uncommon in the hdi90/110's. Just don't let them get to 10k between oil services and inject some oil behind the rear door jambs as they are a triple layer and rot when the water gets trapped in there Sad
If you think the xantia is comfy and it's non hydractive you should try a series 2 xm , cx or ds and you'll be surprised Smile

Northern monkey if your serious I have some contacts who could help or if you want a project and could live without it being a safari there are some very cheap and free ones about but they do need work and I know of a few that have been saved from such starting points with just a few hours a week worth of work Smile

I'm loving the xm still and done 300miles in it already since Monday and booked it in for its mot on Tuesday. The 2.5td is a lovely 4 pot that needs to be driven to be believed, I think it's actually smoother and more balanced than the m57 unit. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Well nothing at the moment but I have had a lot over the years. Started in 1976 with a GS 1220 Club. Then a GSA. A CX. Then another GS. Then a GS Pallas. A BX. Then another CX. Last Citroën was a ZX coiler bought in 1994.

I've been looking at the C5 recently. Graham

Just to be a little pedantic, isn't a gas spring still a spring? Whistle

Smile

Quite like some citreons, but never owned one. Somehow I don't think I will.
