ECU Remap a 4.2 SC

Hi Chaps,

I was looking at options to remap\chip my 2005 4.2 SC. My main goal is for economy not more power\torque.

I am struggling to get 10mpg in the city even following the recommendations, i.e light right foot, lots of coasting, putting the car into neutral when stopping at traffic lights, tyre pressures, etc. Although I am only a weekend driver I thought optimising the ECU may help.

There are a couple of vendors which seem to tick the boxes:

SuperChips
PowerChips
bhpuk

All claim to offer more power\torque with increased fuel economy.

Anyone had any experience with chipping\remapping a 4.2 SC?

the only way to improve the fuel economy of a s/c is to take the bus..

...or lpg and of course regular servicing..

i've never heard of a remap that will give you more mpg.. ... - .- -.

Mine is remapped with a K&N air filter and a supercharger pulley upgrade.

I haven't tried a remapped S/C with no other changes and many believe a remap offers very little benefit. I tend to agree, but it does appear to make the most of the pulley upgrade.

My advice is to get your pulley done first. The cost is about the same as the remap. The pulley mod will really lift your bottom-end response. Si. <This is my name.

That seems low, even for an SC....

Diagnostic and service would be my first port of call.

I am no LPG expert but I have heard that LPG is not ideal on supercharged cars, something to do with engine temperature ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Check for infamous sticking rear brakes perhaps ? Common on SC

I also think 10 mpg sounds low. Mrs E4 does lots of stop start, short runs , and it's more like 14mpg...

I also looked at superchips etc , you only have to look at their before and after graphs to see how little difference it makes Whistle

I am considering the Terraclean process , read plenty of people who think it has helped them ?

Cheers for the helpful suggestions guys,

I agree 10 mpg is not unexpected but does sound a bit low. I swear I used to get closer to 14 before my gearbox was reconditioned and LR 'updated' the software.

It drops as low as 6-8 if I go into central London. I need to figure this out before I start adding on extras - As good as they sound, I will leave the filter, pulley and ECU remap for another day. I know from experience as soon as you go down that path it is hard to stop Smile

I've just had her serviced so will take it back to get the gearbox work reviewed and the sticking brakes sounds interesting and possibly a Terraclean in the future.

Was it the upper or lower pulley? I found this site - looks like it has some interesting options for the future

I used a well-reputed Jaguar specialist near me for the work and went with their recommendations. I used TL Jaguar in Arborfield, near Reading.

The modifications on other members' S/C's are also well documented in this forum. It's well-worth doing a search and reading the other posts. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.
