Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red
Finally got it Back

This post is actually two weeks late but I have bean distracted buying a house
So my Full Fat is finally on my drive after saying good buy to it on 29th May.
So for all those interested here is the proses of a personal import to Australia
First own and use the car for 12 months min before departure and apply for permission from the Australian import authorities.
this is very involved as they required allot of info including a copy of every page of my passport but the email server wont handle large files so I had to send every thing in seven different bundles without knowing for six weeks if they had every thing ( which they didn't)
Then I export the car , I used a container because we took the wife's T5 as well. The car then arrives and is held by customs until an agent is appointed and they arrange for me to pay all the tax fees and tax on the fees and a bit more tax.
The car is then placed in quarantine where I'm told that it has mud underneath and is a hazard . It costs a further $660 to steam clean and melt the insulation wadding under the bonnet and strip all the wire sheathes of my suspension hight sensors and TPM ariels () Censored )
The car is the released to me but it is unregistered and not type approved for Australia so you apply for a 48 hour temporary movement permit and drive to a test centre and pay a bit more money and the car is failed on the spot for not having type approval and they can't read the engine number I give the engine number from the V5 but am told it must be seen so I will have to strip all the protection of the engine ( more Censored )
But I now have the paper work for a Personal import plate so I send it off send wait a week or so .
Once I get the plate I stick it on and apply for another temporary movement order and head off to be inspected ,I pass because the inspector got the engine number of the V5 ( Censored ) I now register it and buy my Rego plates job done.
Is it worth it ? Well, it is now I have done it but that brief description doesn't express the frustration and hassle .
And when I went to insure it every quote put the value at $90,000 so you do the maths Very Happy 2008 MY Supercharged

I once shipped a Discovery 1 V8 from Victoria to WA.

Got it equipped with the regulation immobiliser that WA rego rules decree is law and then off to get it inspected. The chap spends 10 minutes looking it over and hands me the certificate. All he wanted to see was the VIN and see the engine. Not bothered one bit by the expensive immobiliser.

Spoke to an Australian friend about it later that day and his comment... 'Ya gotta love WA!!' He was right, too.

I hear other states are far harsher.

Glad you got there in the end. Where in Perth are you? Si. <This is my name.

Once sold a caravan to an aussie guy who asked me to strip the regulator and gas pipe out, and ensure all water pipes etc were clear, and paid me a day rate to do it...then paid storage, and £1.20 a mile to take it to Portsmouth for him...I sold it for £15k and in AUS it was valued at $55k so it does pay to import from what I can see Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Lets see if the new government over there starts dialling back some of the ridiculous taxes that have been imposed over the years.

Oz is supposedly one of the most expensive countries in the world for buying electronics for example. And the protection of their own car manufacturing industry seems to be failing as well with plants being shut down.

And some of the big offshore projects are being shelved or changed due to the cost of labour being so ridiculously high.

It is the bloody union leaders that first destroyed the UK industry, they moved to Oz and are doing the same over there, killing the industries by going over the top on payments/benefits and protection of jobs.

Sorry for you that you paid the full amount (when I imported my gear it was still doable) but I hope that it changes soon (in case we move to Oz in the future Smile ). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

When I took the plastic trays off from below the engine whilst looking for the engine number they were full of mud anyway so all the damage and expense was the usual complete waste of time , typical government sponsored knob jockeys Rolling Eyes
The trouble is to have the cleaning done you must sign a form saying any damage caused is entirely your own fault Evil or Very Mad 2008 MY Supercharged
