The only flying 4x4 I am aware of so off to locate one... Laughing

How much grey plastic can you get inside one car? And even if the seats are leather - they look like plastic Rolling with laughter Currently running FFRR MY10 TDV8 3.6L and a Disco 3 XS Commercial (tank like but very effective as a Company van). Plus one mint condition Track Day Car in the form of an E36 M3 3.2L Evolution circa June 1996 with lots of go faster bits and only 52k miles on the clock! Oh, plus a few bits to make it slow down really quickly as well! Luvverly.

The Jeep is good car but really cannot be compared with this monster.....

Check out the spec re the engine and the amazing suspension system :

It's widened (look at the cut-outs outside the headlamps - that's how much the wings have been stretched). The suspension is given a giant dose of extra articulation and strength, with very custom-looking shocks. The diffs and electronic controls are equally modded. It's the most serious off-roader any mainstream car maker has ever built. And that's not the walking-speed mountain-goat kind of off-roader either. It's built for racing.

So I'm pounding across a dusty piece of American badland, hitting bumps the size of sheep at 50mph. This suspension is astonishing. It just breathes over the lumps, providing a ride that's like being cradled in the hands of the Almighty. It's just as good at the jumps - hitting a giant ramp, it parts company from the ground for an age, and then reconnects with a gentle hug.

Needless to say, the enormo-tyres grip like crazy, and the choice of 2WD or 4WD means you can either go for the agile turn-in of 2WD, and then deploy the 5.4-litre V8 for some hilarious drifting. Or you can engage 4WD for more sober but even faster progress through big curves or slopes.

Strangely, it doesn't feel entirely out of place on the road. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the steering accurate enough for normal American driving. Which, I acknowledge, isn't saying much. The engine sounds amusingly bellicose, but its 320bhp has to work against 2.7 tonnes and the aero drag of Hadrian's Wall. But there's a solution for that.

Given its immense competence, huge character and deep engineering integrity, it's a bargain. In the US, it kicks off at $38k, which is the sameas the US base price of a BMW X3. That's £25,000 - UK importers want £40k-ish. And the solution to the unexciting performance? Spec the 6.2-litre engine. That takes it to 411 horses, for $3,000. Now we're flying.

We say: does what it’s meant to do with crushing ease. Probably rubbish for the UK High Street… except for the speed bumps.

Diffferent kettle of fish altogether Thumbs Up
