2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Santorini Black

Ta-dah!

(That was my entrance, in case you were wondering).

I am now in the FF Range Rover club. And very happily, too.

We've had an Audi A8 4.2 QS for the last 13.5 years. The kids have, quite literally, grown up in it. But as it's aged, the bills have increasingly represented the value of the car. The market for aged large petrol engined luxobarges isn't great, it seems. Even ones that are the poor man's version of a Ronin car.

So for ages I searched for a suitable replacement. In the end, after discarding numerous practical and impractical choices, I came down to two: an Audi S8 V10 (the previous shape) or a RR 4.2 SC.

I've been looking at S8s for almost three years now. In that time I've seen no more than two that have ticked all my boxes. One sold fast and the other will never sell because the seller doesn't really want to sell it.

SCs aren't quite as thin on the ground as S8s, but good ones aren't exactly falling off the low branches. And then while I was on holiday, I realised that andypopse's SC in the classifieds here was still available.

I needn't have worried about Andy selling it from under my nose while I was away, as he was a complete gent: as I was the first "serious" interest, he gave me time to get back home and sort myself out. It was well worth it.

I've only ever bought two cars brand new. I can say completely honestly that Andy's car stands shoulder to shoulder with a brand new off-the-forecourt car. It is *unbelievably* tidy. And that's not just me, either. Everyone in my family asked questions on the same theme: "did he ever use this car?". I'm told by him that he did, but I find it pretty hard to believe. I once heard a commercial pilot say that there are only two times a plane looks new: when it is new, and when you open the doors and decompress it at 35000'. I can only assume Andy opened the windows and loaded his RR onto a plane late last week.

The driving experience is sublime, but you all knew that, didn't you? It's hard not to look down on other road users when, well, you're looking down on them. You just float along, in an understated but imperious way. Road lumps that my Porsche kicks up through my rear, or the Audi more subtly lets me know are there, just get totally munched by the RR. It engenders a completely different style of driving. All of a sudden I feel like the world waits for me, rather than the other way round. Lovely.

Pic of the day was Mrs 66, 66 major and 66 minor sitting on the tailgate grinning their heads off. The idea of a tailgate picnic already has *very* deep roots! Range Rover 4.2 SC

England 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Oslo Blue

Morning,

I joined the forum a few weeks ago, actually to put up a wanted post for a FFRR ....

Well, as of yesterday, I'm now the VERY proud owner of a 2003 Vogue V8 with LPG in ?Midnight Blue (its dark blue anyway!).

Have just sold a 1992 200 Tdi Defender after 11 years and had a 4 hour journey home with the RR that was sublime. I couldn't quite get used to the power and ride of something that still said Land Rover on the wheel !!

Cheers all

Adam
