Tyre sizes for 20" wheels

Hi I have a 02 FFRR I am putting 20" genuine Stormers on it my original tyres are 255/55/19 most people say you need to fit 275/45/20 tyres on put I don't feel they look wide enough for the rim to protect it or look right. So can I fit 295/40/20 tyres or is there problems. I know it will compromise the ride but I like the look of wider wheels & the 22" don't ride as well as 20" (The wheels came second hand with 275/40/20 on)

Hi Kay - I have 20" alloys that are fitted with 255/50R20's and I believe this is the standard size tyre that Land Rover recommend for 20" wheels on L322 model.

The tyre sizes you mention - I think, are more suitable for RR Sports because of their lower profile?

Were the 'new' alloys you have originally fitted to a RR Sport?

Trusted forum member RRUK makes a very good point when discussing aftermarket alloys / tyres being fitted, that being - always make sure your insurance company is informed / up to date of what your car is running on if it is different from the standard equipment, as your insurance could be invalid etc...

Is there a reason why you want different tyres to what is normally recommended / fitted by the manufacturer Question

You do know as well with the wider tyre, when driving in the wet you will tend to slide a lot more ........

RR Sport Stormer Wheels will be a 9J width wheel rather than 8.5J Wheel. 255 width will fit a 9J but many use a 275 width profile but these are not recommended. Make sure you use a 109 load rating. In the event of an accident or insurance claim you could find you have a major problem though so i would stick with original wheel and tyre recommendations

im getting a new set of 2010 supercharged wheels and im gonna go for 275/45/20 instead of 255/50/20 cause i use my car in city most of time and 275/45 has almost the same sidewall height with 255/50/20

United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

I was talking to a mobile tyre fitter at work the other day. He had to change a tyre on my vehicle and ended up changing all four to keep them the same.
I asked what he did with the removed tyres, which were mint. He said they normally sell them 2nd hand. I then asked if he had any 20" Range Rover tyres that he'd come across and he said he'd just sold a set of Conti's for £100 each. He said his company had been down to the Met police to remove brand new Conti tyres from the new range rovers, as the account the Met hold is with Goodyear (same as us). He reckons he took off 275/45/20 off their vehicles and said the new FFRR's had this size as standard.
Anyone confirm? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I strongly doubt that.

Land Rover only sell FFRR with ONE size of tyre and thats the 255/50/20 Discovery 4 HSE

I was told RR has stopped suppling FF as it was now not the image they want.

As for the stormers, if they are off a sport will they be strong enough?
