2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Looking for a TDV8 Vogue SE

Well it's boyhood dream time......it's time for a Rangey !

Having had a D1, D2 and D3 I am looking for a jump to a 3.6 TDV8.

Without sparking a huge list of problems, what are the typical pitfalls, known issues, things to look for....??

I would prefer a dealer car with warranty...though if a keen provate buyer has a well maintained one I could be interested.

In no rush to buy but hoping in the next couple of months, my budget is around £20k

I was a regular on the d3 forum but don't hold that against me Thumbs Up

Many thanks for any advice, suggestions and guidance.....it's a big purchase for me and I am grateful Very Happy

Cheers Nick

I've just bought one and had a similar budget to yours but spent a few grand over...

With your budget, I doubt you'll find an approved used one from a Land Rover main dealer which would leave purchasing from an independent garage. The majority of the warranties provided by independents aren't usually worth the paper they're written on and most only provide 3 month warranties.

In the circumstances, I'd look for a cherished car from a private owner which would mean you're not paying extra to a garage as profit and can get more car for your money. This is what I did on my two previous cars and touch wood, I haven't had a problem with either my old S6 or my current TDV8 Vogue SE.

I'm in Manchester so if you want to have a nosey around mine so you can be au fait with the model you're looking for, give me a shout. Any excuse to have a nice drive down to Cheshire...

Thanks chaps.....was getting worried that as an LR peasant I maybe getting a cold shoulder but some replies confirm that I will be fine as a Ranget virgin.

I have been to Gaz's website and he has some nice cars there, also pm'd him.

There is a luverly stornoway one on here, a touch outside my budget but I can sell a child or a kidney and would rather get one I like for a touch over £20k.

A look around one first would be superb, thanks for that kungfupanda - I'll pm you Thumbs Up

Am seeking the pitfalls and issues, I am not an LR virgin but never thought I'd be seeking a FFRR TDV8....I am not a mega buck earner so this is a huge deal for me in fairness.

I am thankfull for your help Bow down

...and once my feet are under the table and I actually have a car.....I'll ramp up the contributions

Whistle

Good luck with the search. Just the same principles as buying a Disco really.

My one is an 07 TDV8 on 77,000 miles which has so far needed a new alternator which they seem to. something to do with weak diodes in them so I am told.

A new battery, (they do seem to get through batteries more than many cars) every 3 years or so.

Rear calipers seize (caught mine in time luckily so not too much money. )

Air Suspension fault (minor) flashed up. Air compressor was not able to breathe properly due to lint screen being clogged. ( 2 minute job to clean the area and fit new lint screen )

On mine the rear diff failed but everyone was shocked and it really seemed to be a one off.

Other than that, nothing else has gone wrong and it has been faultless. (Unless I am forgetting something)
For these ones, I am not sure there is much else that is guarunteed to go wrong.

You should get a benefit from the new one lowering the prices a bit for the L322's! Good luck.
Have to say as I am not a rich man, I took out a warranty direct warranty and it has been worth it's weight in gold! Cannot fault them.

Don't discount independent garages just because you won't get a LR warranty - read up on here, make sure you know what to check and don't be scared to walk away if anything puts you off.

I purchased my TDV8 from an independent - best example I could find, 1 owner, with full supplying main dealer SH

14 months and 15k miles later, other than a new battery and routine replacement of wear and tear items, the car has been faultless (although I do need to get my leaking air con fixed!) 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Why do you want the Vogue SE ?

What particular options are you looking for ?

I wouldn't rule out a properly spec'd Vogue - its more important to know what you want. For example - do you want a ski bag ? Rear Sear Entertainment, cooled seats etc ?

Shocked

To be fair I don't have to have any of the above, the specs seemed very varied and so I was looking at VSE's that had heated front screens and rear screens for my children.

Have seen 2 very nice HSE's with great specs that would suit me so HSE, Vogue, VSE.....am not fussed ! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Read the specs list in the wiki! They all have heated seats!

You'll land up paying a premium for a VSE and if your not fussed about spec, you could save £1000's

HSE doesnt have heated rear seats
Vogue doesnt have cooled seats

All have front and rear heated windows.

RSE isn't really needed as two ipads or playbooks are much better value and more portable Smile

I have got a 2007 VSE.

In the 18 months I have had it I have had to change rear suspension bushes, had a seized rear caliper and replaced the battery.

Best car I have owned! Very Happy
