Porsche Cayenne - Experiences

I know this is like talking about the devil but has anyone had any experiences of them.

Really feel like owning one - they seem to get excellent reviews - lets ignore the styling for now, its clearly like it or hate it. 2007 facelift certainly make a difference.

Anyone got any experience of them: the good the bad and the ugly

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I reviewed them as the alternative to the FFRR and apart from the 2004 models they seem very reliable. I went together with a friend to the Porsche dealer in Geneva as he was considering one and had a good look. They are very nice in a different way than the FFRRs. Another friend of mine has a Turbo S and the acceleration is staggering while the drive experience is very "tight" and sports car like.

I would have gotten one until I got lucky and the SC showed up. Not sure that it was a great choice considering its reliability but I still like the FFRR looks a lot more and would even buy a L405 or new Sport over a new Cayenne but that is based on looks not performance or reliability. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The Cayenne is about the only nonLR 4x4 I'd consider. If you're just after the high driving position, the SUV look and maybe a bit of snow - great car! If you need to get over anything more challenging than a nicely graded gravel road, look elsewhere.

^ Cayenne would need decent tyres for snow... Mine had road tyres and 340bhp spinning all 4 wheels left me No better off Laughing

I had old model v8 "s" for 4 years. Went like a train. You tend to take huge liberties , and drive like a bit of a hooligan as front end grip and feel through the front wheels inspires confidence . Drives very "car like" rather than the waft of the FFRR.

Drank fuel and ate tyres. Rolling with laughter
Get air suspension over steel springs to help with tyre wear apparently... Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

A friend has a "Top of Range" 2011 and we both drove to Fort William & back via Snowden (Three Peaks) and I simply could not keep up with him on the Motorway or B Roads and I was in a great 3.6 TDV8....

I may try one (one day) (maybe) (just for the day) Laughing

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 V8 Stornoway Grey

Looked at one, never sat in one but ordered a Cayenne S V8 Diesel and expecting delivery in October. My Westminster is great to drive and no problems but the dealership put me off the thought of going back for a service or warranty work if required.

Time will tell if I have made the right choice for me or otherwise.

Just don't drive into a field on the standard tyres.

Beware of the Main Dealer service departments. They are well known for "over exaggerating" things that need replaced when the don't, on the basis that "it's a sports car, sir and you don't want to take any chances". Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

Interesting! Makes me wonder about all the Classic RR and P38 people keep converting to coils.

It's because of the main dealer that I am moving away from Land Rover, on the basis that one who does unnecessary work is better than one who does bad work.

Any dealer who cannot follow simple instructions from a manufacturer does not deserve their dealership.

Trommel, why are standard tyres on the Cayenne so bad on grass?

They're basically the sort of summer tyres you'd expect to see on a big, fast saloon - no concession in terms of tread design to being on a 4x4. Think you can specify an all-season tyre for free; how much more useful that is I don't know.

Very different car from a Range Rover.

+1

high speed rating Pirellis. Nice and quiet, decent grip . Rubbish on anything but Tarmac

As far as steel springs vs Air, don't know why...
But suspension is very firm, and handling is pretty "chuckable", so you ( well me..) tend to throw it around corners . Laughing

That was 2005, I was younger then Whistle Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

As most of my driving is motorway, I will be test driving the Cayenne S Diesel before I decide on the L405. Only problem, I'll have to keep my eyes closed until I'm inside as it's got an ugly face....

Uhm......I've used that phase before somewhen?? Current MY2020
Gone: 1 x L405 and 2 x L322's
