2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver
Had enough, so selling up

When I bought my FF I loved it to bits, thinking it was the beez kneez Thumbs Up

Almost straight away the rear passenger door lock failed, the cup holder got stuck and the wing mirrors failed to close and just flapped as if they wanted to take off, luckily the garage I bought it from fixed these items. Then I start to get the 'transfer=neutral' bong irregularly

The heated seat on the driver’s side packs up and a new element required - £100 and the leather fails too so a new lower seat would be required.

The tv goes digital and the aftermarket unit I bought was utter Censored so wasted £150 there, the sat nav unit starts chucking the disc out continuously so lose nav ability and fix is £200 or so for a new unit. Sad

I put 3 new tyres on (£450) and find out my tracking is way out and the tyre place cant even undo the nut to fix it so they wont last long Crying or Very sad

It then fails the mot on discs and pads so another £200, it also fails on headlight wipers (which still need fixing) Evil or Very Mad, talking of lights I had to drill holes in my rear ones to release enough water to cool a fracking operation

Also losing about a litre of coolant a month, I put kseal in the rad and kill the already almost dead water pump, £300 and four days of getting a viscous fan nut off i get that sorted (after breaking another forum members home made holding tool Embarassed ) Another member said I’d start to get transmission problems so sure enough when taking the caravan away the gearbox goes in to 'recovery/limp mode' as its overheating and the dreaded 'transmission overheat' warning appears. When checking it out at destination we also realise the thermostat is not working - another £200 fix, still haven’t sorted the over heat problem. I reckon that’s a new transmission cooler and possibly a new rad – another 3 or 4 hundred quid

The mirrors are playing up again Crying or Very sad

After getting home and box going into 'recovery mode' again the car starts getting 'transfer=neutral' again on a larger scale than previous I have decided to call it a day and get rid as I’m fed up of chucking money at this antique waiting for the next failure/fix (all this in 18 months - is the most I've ever had to attend to a car)

May I thank everyone here for their invaluable help in the posts and wiki, hell i'm almost a qualified rr tech now thanks to you Thumbs Up

Wishing you a trouble free FF

Mmmm. Well. A mate of mine paid £11.5k for a 2003 4.4V8 with a Kahn kit on. Had it 6 months and sold it to a dealer for £5k at he couldn't afford to fix a gearbox issue that had started. He had previously spent £1k getting the air struts sorted on the front when the suspension collapsed.

He always had an issue on lpg and something or other with a catalytic converter.

Amongst numerous other issues........all in 6 months.

He said he'd just run out of money. Went to a £3k S60 Volvo diesel and is now in a 2003 Discovery Td5 ES. He has had about 10 Disco's and is a happy many again. Relatively.

I bought a 1 owner 2003 Td6 Vogue and got a 12 month warranty. I renew the warranty each year for less than £300 and it covers engine, gearbox, turbo, 4x4 parts etc etc.

They've paid for the pixel fix on the dash, a new secondary fuel pump, a new viscous fan and a locking latch for one of the rear doors, at it had stopped working with the central locking.

When I got it, the garage put a new LR battery on, a new rad, fixed the CD changer, stripped the front suspension down and waxed it all. Changed numerous parts to stop a knocking going over bumps....the Fan FSR.....

I've replaced both front struts, put in a BMW hybrid TV tuner from an X5, removed the EGR, added BMW ULF bluetooth and paid about £1k on bodywork / rear tailgate / arches issues........

Whilst I love it to bits, I'd be having 2nd thoughts without the warranty if I'm honest.

Hope you find something you like which gives you a bit more peace of mind. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Fact is they are bits of mechanical equipment and it sounds like you've been playing catch up on the previous owners short cuts. Having had my previous Vogue three years and other than two items of minor standing failing, sticky steering wheel and misting up fog light, I thought they were good cars, current one is full of tailgate rust and gearbox issues at 40k miles and four years old. Sport was five years of continuos failures, usually of the same components. TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.
TDV8 Sport. Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!

Auto protect, but it looks like you only get it through buying a car through a dealer doing their warranties. You can't phone them and get it. Didn't realise that at the time I got 12 months warranty with the car, bit of luck for a change ! 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I had a 3.6 petrol Touareg Altitude. Check the drive shaft bearing between the front and rear diffs, it craps out at 50 to 60k miles. The rubber support degrades and if run when it collapses will destroy the gearbox.

Indy will replace it for circa £300 or VW for £1500. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11
