Continental Tyres on FFRR Westminster

Iv seen a few posts already on here about the Continentals and thought I'd share my woes too!

Bought my Westminster back in October and loved it straight away, big change from my @05 S/C.
So back in January the snow arrived, I didnt really have problems with traction or getting stuck in the snow. So Im working in Norway and my partner calls me to tell me that she couldnt get the Range Rover up our track (a steep hill track leading to our house). I thought, ha typical woman, cant drive to save her life!!
I came home a few days later, and had no problems at all getting up the track.

The next dump of snow came and I drove home to find a good covering of snow on the track, I tried everything to get the FFRR up my track, every mode, Low range, high range everything!! The blody car would nt even look at the track. I spent the next couple of days having problems with (not) getting up my track. Censored

So fast foward to 4 weeks ago, they front tyres are showing excessive wear on the outer edges, so I call landrover in Perth(who had just been taken over) and booked in the FFRR for a warrenty claim on the tyres. I drive all the ay to Perth only to be told that its "a common problem with these tyres". I was less than impresed and called Landrover customer services, who promised to call me back next day. 6 days later I called them back to be told, no warrenty as its a common problem??!! The he tells me that as I bought the vehicle from Stratstone, Landrover wouldnt help me as the contract of sale wa between me and Stratstones??!! Ragin wasnt the word. Censored Censored

So far not impressed with the customer care by Landrover. Iv now fitted Toyos to the front and so far they are fine, but will be looking at Grabbers A/Ts for winter this year.

I did the same on the basis that if the Toyos wore out like the Contis, the cost of replacement would be less. The Contis wore on the shoulder and were being replaced every 10-15k. After 10k, the Toyos look fine and in every other respect appear excellent. 2014 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography & 2015 3.0SDV6 HSE Lux Discovery 4

i changed from michelin to conti's
also get left hand front outside tyre wear Big Cry
but more alarmingly these cont's seem really noisy Sad
when braking at say 70 mph on certain motorway or dual carriageway surfaces (tarmac not concrete) there is a horribly grating sound like worn out brake pads (metal to metal)
the slower the speed the less it appears and i thought my brake pads were worn out
had them checked by local garage and there is loads of pad left Thumbs Up
also on other roads (ie motorways or dual carriageways) at the same speed ,the noise is not there at all which makes me think it must be the tyres
anyone had this before ?????

I put new conti's on last summer and they performed well over the winter. They have 20k miles on them now and have got excessive wear on the outer edges, particularly the front left outer edge, so will be looking to change them soon. I will be looking into some of the cheaper brands to replace them as when I ran the Pirelli Scorpion I only managed 10k miles from them.

Vred Wintrac get particularly good reviews so I will be considering these as an all year roound option also.

I also had this same noise but more at very low speeds, I thought the pads were on the way out and checked them but they were fine??!!
Never again will I go near Conti's, for the price you pay for them, £250 per tyre, you would expect a far better tyre.

I would consider these, but now I'm not sure if the SC is a bit too much for them. Thoughts? Discovery 4 HSE

Yep, I had a set on my SC and found them more noisy than the Continentals and still suffered edge wear, so went back to Continentals for my current set Surprised

I had Conti's on my old SC, slid all over the place in the snow and ice and even caused a slight Venture off road into a fence. I replaced them with Pirrelli Scorpions which have been great all year round. Currently have Scorpians on my TDV8 and they are still good and even after 48,000 miles! I find the road stone in Scotland to be MUCH more abrasive than any where else I have driven , struggled to get much more than 10000k myself and very shall we say miffed until a quarry owner told me the stone he supplied for road work in the west of Scotland was the hardest wearing in the UK .
My misuses was lunching Continental Sport Contacts on her T5 every 5000k Shocked

As an aside Craptinental Cross Contacts are $1500 EACH here ,Why would you bother Evil or Very Mad 2008 MY Supercharged
