First maintenance (mis) adventure with the Range...

Well I've had the car for around six weeks and totally love it. Had a service and healthier check with my local main dealers who advised that the near side lower hub bearing had excessive play in. Plus the offside had a little play in too which was causing it to squeak when driving along. Not a big problem as I have a very good friend who is a Ferrari technician who has his own workshop for evening and weekend work.

So I get upper and lower replacement bushes from the main dealer at a cost of £145 and drop the car off for my friend to work on. Well here's where the problems start. Apparently, every single bolt is rusted under the car and its been a nightmare to dismantle the hub. One one side, the handbrake cable is apparently seized so badly that he can't get it off without cutting it and drilling through the hole. So he's had to re assemble everything and hand me the car back. I now need to get a replacement hand brake cable and the work will have to be done later in the week.

I've now got to postpone my trip to Duckworths for my deployable sidesteps to be fitted as the tracking is currently out on the car and I don't really want to drive it a long distance until this remedial work is done.

Not a massive rant but I suppose it's one of those quirks of having a Range Rover I suppose. Well, I hope that this all gets sorted out next week.

I have always found that disappointing on landrover products. If they spent another £100 having things plated or galvanised etc it would just make such a better product. The next one I get will be up on the ramps and waxed everywhere. Previously..

The rust might not be down to the vehicle, countless times I have seen range rovers and land rovers used to launch a boat axle deep in the sea, or showing off driving at speed through saltwater splashes on the beach - don't people realise what saltwater does to brake components, electrics and rust Shocked only last week a brand new RRS up to its bumpers launching a chaparral - FFS what an idiot 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

The rust shouldn't be so bad its that hard to get enough, especially with air powered tools and some patience Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

That rusty and on an '07. Stuff was tight on my '02 suspension that had been on it since birth, but with patience and persuasion it all came apart OK (with the exception of the nuts on the rear toe bar nuts which I had to cut/drill off - see wiki)

Find it hard to believe the handbrake cable bit... Rolling Eyes

When I have my wheel alignment done I was impressed with the little vibrator air tool they used to loosen track rod end nuts.

Perhaps your indie was being a little too "time related" .

Well given that its a good friend of mine who's doing the work for me at no charge and not an independent, I doubt it's in his interest to send me back and forth from his workshop. Alas, I'll have to wait another week before its all sorted.
