I've got all the parts to add the small gas strut to dampen the lower tailgate opening but I'm having problems removing the old ones. They're well rusted and are held on with torx screws. I've tired with a cheap ratcheting screwdriver thing with no joy. I think I'm going to invest in better tools. Planning on getting a small 3/8" ratchet and the specific sized torx driver. Does anyone know the specific sized torx bit I need Tsomething?

if you want a decent socket set you cant go far wrong with having a look at what halfords have got, there are a couple which would have all the tools you woul need in them.

i would normally be able to tell you the size but unfortunately i swapped mine last year and the replacements came with bolts not torx screws

i would guess that they would be about t30-t40 probably t35. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The existing bolts require a T40 torx bit.
As above, if you are going to buy tools go for a Halfords Professional Socket Set for about £70.
You get a lot more for your money than buying an individual ratchet and bit.

Yep I've got the Halfords Professional socket set. It was around £100 as it was discounted. I assume I'll just need the driver bit then and possibly some penetrating oil.

When you get the bit tap it into the bolt head with a hammer to ensure it goes all the way to the bottom of the recess to get maximum grip.

If you are fitting the strut to the bottom tailgate dont be tempted to overtighten the self tapping nuts as they will strip the thread they have cut for themselves quite easily. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
