Morning campers.

I'm pondering an idea to buy a used LWB van (eg Transporter, Vito) and convert it (or rather, pay for someone else to convert it) to a camper to sleep 2, with some kind of interesting (or epic) interior. Anyone done this or got experience of doing it?

Recommendations for firms that specialise in this kind of work would also be welcome...

A colleague has just bought a site day van so it comes with sink and hot water system and converted that himself looks a reasonable job to. I think Gaz was thinking on having one done?
There are plenty of specialists out there, one near me converts jap import vans Denby I think it's called, in Leek Staffs far away I know but website might inspire. Mine was a blue one!

I converted a VW LT high roof van into a 4 berth camper some 30 years ago.
Made all my own furniture and fittings, took about 9 months working nights and weekends. Used it all over Europe for years.
Sold it eventually and see it is still on the road.
If I was to do one now I would have it professionally converted by one of the many companies out there.
Some really good conversions now available at good prices.
The work doing it yourself is horrendous and if you eventually want to sell it on it has to be done to a very high standard.
Well worth doing imo.

My other car is a Mazda Bongo & if you dont know what one looks like, its a sort of people carrier that converts beautifully into a camper van that can sleep 4 people The roof is an electric pop top, it sleeps two in comfort in the roof space & sleeps two on the normal level as the seats all fold down flat. Its got a 2.5ltr 12 valve diesel engine with 136bhp on tap linked to an automatic gearbox. The engine isn't below the bonnet but is mounted between the seats. You can service the engine whilst sitting out of the rain. There are electric blinds air con in the back as well as the front

Now on the subject of building a campervan, there are many companies on the bay of fleas that will convert your chosen van. The kit to do the back of my Bongo is around £1300 which I think is amazing value. Remember too that insurance for a camper van is roughly half that of a normal van! However the van must be certificated as a camper & even that info can be bought on the bay of fleas.

Go for it, you'll love it...  The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!
