the big lap

Just finishing up some business matters, getting the ff and caravan ready for the big lap. Will leave Perth (WA) head across the Nullabor, to Adelaide (South Aus), then Victoria. Up the east coast to Cairns(QLD) across the top (NT) down the middle to Ayers Rock, finally back home to Perth. Total distance about 15000 kms, will do it in around a year. (Not in a hurry).(Did I mention this is a BIG country?) Can't wait. Very Happy Very Happy

Yes, Stan, a bit of prep required. We avoid caravan parks as much as possible, and love free-camping out in the bush, so carry 280 ltres water, 2 x 110a/hr batteries, solar panels, honda 2kw gennie, so water is our only problem, but can camp for up to a week before running out. Of course, if we camp near water, we can stay as long as we wish. But once up in the NT, camping too close to water can be a little risky! Laughing (Crocs.)
As far as the car is concerned, just a full service, incl g/box flush, and we are good to go. Although it's older than I would like, it has been very reliable, comfortable, and tows the tin tent (3200kg) with stately aplomb!! Laughing
And we do have full recovery cover, including van, anywhere in Aussie. And if we do have problems, Dan will, (as he has in the past) get parts here in less than 2 weeks, during which time we can sit in the sun, have a few beers, and wait!!

Sounds fantastic. Thumbs Up

We've driven the Gibb River Road in The Kimberley (unfortunately in a hired Shogun / Pajero as I couldn't find anyone to hire a LR from) and that was a trip to remember. Walking past (at a respectful distance) freshwater crocs in Geije Gorge was an experience I won't forget. Wouldn't have done it if they were salties.

I've plans to return and do more. Such a fantastic country!! Si. <This is my name.
