Air Con Recharge

Had my inoperative Air Con Recharged today.
While you wait service (1 hour).
£40+VAT - £48 all in.
I saw several boards out front of garages all same price.
Just a guide for SW London recharge prices.

I guess main Dealers would charge £80-£90 ?
As somebody posted on another thread, £25 at Halfords, but would you ??

The biggest thing is if they actually weigh or pressure it into the system after vaccing it and how long they vac for. Ideally engine should be reun and system vac'd while AC on. then engine off and system left in vac state for 20-30mins. Any loss of vacum and no recharge done. If no loss then recharge done by weight of r134a that the system needs with all vents open and AC set to max to ensure it is fully out and in to the system.

A lot of places bodge it with cheap equipment by pressure and a lot of the home kits are the same. The danger is it could put too much refrigerant in the system and cause issues down the line. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Umm .. I have let Kwik-Fit attempt “air conditioning recharges” on two different vehicles at two different sites. I didn’t pay for either because the air conditioning performance was not improved by their service as per their T&Cs

However subsequently for both cars I was told that there was no refrigerant gas in the system.

The first vehicle was repaired under warranty (a compressor fault) so there was no need for the dealer to tell me fibs.

In the second case (FFRR) the compressor started up fine after a recharge but because Kwik-Fit had implied their was a fault with the system I spent extra after asking the indy to do more extensive diagnostics in hunting for a non existent fault.

I suspect that Kwik-Fit may have left both vehicles empty of refrigerant after their service.

From a profit and loss viewpoint if their automated air conditioning service can’t get the A/C to cool properly then logically they should purge the vehicle of any refrigerant they have added. I just wish if this is what they actually do then they should be upfront about it instead of leading you to believe that they have left the gas in the system FOC because they couldn’t get the system to cool.

(Fool me once.. Yeah…. I know Embarassed!!)
