Help please - yellow engine light

Dear Forumees

Is car safe to drive with yellow engine light ?
Car has oil (looks clean) & water, no funny smells or noises. Bought in Jan, and was serviced (allegedly)
Behaved very well during 3 hour motorway drive yesterday....

I appreciate I need to get codes read etc , but won't get to a garage before weekend..
Mrs is going potty, as needs car , 3 kids at home for school holidays!

Stuck the battery on the CTEK overnight ...

Anything I can check ? Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

Solid yellow engine light, or flashing light? It's important. Flashing light means pull over as quickly as possible and get the car towed away for repairs.

Solid yellow means an engine fault has been detected and logged. Ideally, the car should see a mechanic as soon as is convenient. I got the yellow engine light a while back. Puzzled as the car ran beautifully. The light went out about two weeks later. Mechanic later read the logged fault - misfire on ignition in two cylinders. It was just an instantaneous fault. The car extinguished the yellow warning light on its own after x # proper starts and x # hours operating normally. He put it down to a random bit of bad gas. We fixed nothing and it never came back. Car recently passed a thorough inspection without problems.

You checked for visible problems - so far, so good. Fuel economy will also give a clue if something's wrong. If I was crossing the Sahara, I'd get it sorted immediately. A few around town jaunts are probably fine until the weekend. (IM NOT A MECHANIC AND I ONLY SAID PROBABLY.). My cars the Jag 4.4 NA petrol. It may be different on other engines. Don't sweat it and check it on the weekend. Good luck!

Yellow engine light normally denotes an issue relating to engine emissions - could be EGR fault or similar.

Cheers , hopefully she isn't going too far/fast.
Light is solid yellow.

I ran it very low on petrol yesterday, as it was guzzling it on a 3 hour , very wet, high speed (70mph officer) motorway run.
Filled it with 98 octane. Maybe rubbish sainsburys stuff Whistle

Fuel economy ! ? What fuel economy.. It's an SC Rolling with laughter

Will get to a garage ASAP, and report back Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix

Fuel economy? I hear you. At least you're not a diesel guy who thinks there's something wrong because the fuel economy has PLUNGED to ONLY 40 mpg. Mr. Green

Seriously, I'm betting it was a bit of grit or momentary lack of fuel from running low.

It's one of many things which could include: misfire, coil packs, lean / rich mixture, emissions etc. unless you've noticed the car running lumpy I'd say it's likely to be emissions related. Mine sometimes throws a lean code if I "make too much progress".

I have been running with a yellow light for 5 years on my 4.2sc.

Initially every gadget and sensor was replaced with no success. It gets reset from time to time but comes on again eventually.

I just gave up as it runs perfectly well.

One day, I will stumble across the reason, so keep us up to date on progress as it at help me. 2014 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography & 2015 3.0SDV6 HSE Lux Discovery 4
