New V6 owner here and must admit I love it. There is plenty of grunt when required, not a V8 roar but the V6 does sound like it means business - having come from an AM V8 Vantage I know a good V8!
I'll admit I've never had the privilege of driving the 4.4, either in the L322 or L405 so cannot compare. I did own one of the first 3.6 TDV8s in the Sport a few years back and the 3.0 does pick up better than that.
The 8 speed does indeed mean it drops down a cog or two if you need to squeeze the loud pedal a bit, especially if you get to an incline etc. Having said all that, I'm 200 miles into owning mine so with a still very tight engine I'm averaging 34mpg!
