There was a case in America recently where someone created the plans for a working 3D printable pistol called 'The Liberator'

US Gov were not happy and took action.

I NEEEEEED it !!! I have already cleared a space in my future (still imaginary) workshop for it .

As for guns, I prefer the real stuff, good solid steel to keep those hot gasses and lead slugs from going in "unwanted directions". I have seen what can go wrong with steel guns that go "pop", hence me being a bit apprehensive around guns especially that Liberator abomination. My guns were always in top condition, clean, no faults (despite being heavily modified).

Anyway, looking forward to playing with one of these once I get a chance. Been seeing them on the annual "tools" show in Utrecht in Holland for years, hoping we could justify getting one for the company I worked for then !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Under pressure they removed them but the plans were a bit, err, less than everyone thought. Its a one shot unit and even then half the time it was cack and didn't fire properly.

The plans being out there didnt do much as anyone with 1.2 a brain could spend a bit of time coming up with them and get the same result or better. It was more a publicity stunt.

I agree it is concerning the plans are still out there. Think of all the poor idiots that will end up with guns parts lodged in their face. I never understood why they didn't test it in a Ransom rest. I NEVER EVER would have considered firing that thing from my hands or near my body. That test for me said enough about the designers, dangerous idiots.

IMHO the thing is more dangerous to the user than the person it is pointing at. Not to say that it would not kill you if it doesn't disintegrate when fired. If it stays in one piece it will be quite lethal unfortunately.

But then again, a kitchen knife or a car can be pretty lethal weapons as well and you still need to get ammunition for the gun.

Unfortunately these sort of guns will be getting better and better and end up in the hands of terrorists and other nutcases. I mean black powder can be made at home as well as lead bullets. The world didn't get any safer with 3D printing but that has been with most if not all technological developments, almost anything can be turned into a weapon and there are many people that want to try that.

Lets just focus on the good side of technology and lock up all the crazies and throw away the key. Yea once something is on the net you'll never get rid of it, some vids on YT of people 'printing' parts for it.

From what I've seen todays tech seems a little 'low res' but like has been said above - imagine it in 10 years.
