Barrels of fun...

Picked up a couple of +100 gallon whisky barrels today, and they still had a little whisky in them. They smell lovely - and that's as close as I get to drinking the stuff these days.

I got them to use as water butts, but I'm tempted to not fill them just so I can sniff them now and again.

It's IPE which is a tropical wood that doesn't grow in Swizerland. I can get it here but it's much more expensive. Actually the UK was quite a bit cheaper even than Germany and it meant I could get a few other things at the same time and get Craig to do some work on my car.

As for the weight, I don't know. It's a 3500kg trailer with a load capacity of 2690kg - so your guess of trailer weight of 800kg was very good. I calculated the wood at 2400kg. The barrels are about 60-80kg each. When I went to pick it up I asked them how much it weighs and they didn't know. They had a calculator which said 2800kg which would have put me well over, but they said the calculator overestimates by 5-10% so they don't get haulage problems with payloads being more than quoted.

So was I over, was I under? I don't know, but either way I was very close to the max.

TBH the FF seems stable with a lot more weight on the back of it as long as the nose is kept within tolerances Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
