Apple TV

Gents,

Has anyone thought about fitting an Apple TV in there full fat yet? I'm thinking of ways to modernise the head unit on a budget and I know you can air play from another iOS device.
The only down side I can see is you need a hdmi input..
Anyone know of a way to get a tuner box with hdmi imput.

Hopefully my thinking is fit the Apple TV in the boot with a 12v inverter set the head unit to aux/TV and just use the iPad in the car for a remote for all of its music, films and sat nav etc.

Thanks in advance. Bushy

Also might need wifi to AirPlay so a mobile dongle might be needed. Bushy

Unusual but I was pondering this, yesterday.
All our iDevices are now lightning connector and I was trying to come up with a solution to integrate with my RSE.
Had it, loved it!

Now theres a thought........

If you could integrate a small nas into the aux/tv input which could be controlled via an iphone app......

Back to the apple tv, it can not be set up as a wirelesss base station itself like the airport express, bit you could use an airport express as the access Point thus providing the wifi and tie the ipad/phone to the apple tv.

You would need an active hdmi splitter to decode the digital signal and split it into the relevent feeds then find a way of wiring it into the av feed to the rse.

Something lilke that i think.[/url] There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Interesting idea.......

The HDMI to composite is easy - this

You'd need a wifi router too, but pretty much any old router would do & they are generally 12v anyway

I haven't been able to get Apple TV running directly from a NAS - you still need something else to drive it - either an iDevice over Airplay or a Mac/PC over wifi for iTunes.

Not sure it's worth it though - my kids don't touch the RSE & much prefer their own iPads and then in the front we have an iPod wired in.......

Thanks,
I don't know much about them as I don't own one. But really I opened this thread so we could "chew it over" and work out if something like this would be possible.
I know so many people would like a simple way to upgrade their pride and joy. Bushy

I was thinking about something like this in the car other than a router, you may need to set it up on a tv in your house first. But should work fine.

Should work - I've not tried a MiFi for between connection between devices, only ever for sharing an internet connection.

You have a SIM card in them then everyone else connects WiFi & shares the connection. I assume you can communicate between devices like a regular router, but haven't ever tried.

If you use https://www.apple.com/uk/airport-express/ then you can benefit from the media and Internet connection on your iPhone

I have a (removeable) WD 1TB hard drive that sits where my cd changer used to be. I then have a tiny magic eye on the dash, with the other end in the inside of the glove box lid so the receiver of the WD can get the remote control signal. I have it linked to both the av input on the main screen and the rear screens.

Only problem, the text on the navigation menus on the WD are small, and on the small, low res screen in the Car, it's difficult to see what you are selecting...

I have a toysinyourcar adaptor to give me av input and reversing cam input. This also lets me switch the main screen back to nav while keeping the audio for the kids. (Timmy Time with just sound, no pictures, is very weird!!)
