This should help someone when dismantling the interior to get at the steering wheel tilt motor.

To get to the motor do the following to aid access:

1. Put drivers seat all the way back
2. Extend the steering wheel all the way out.

You will need a size 24 and size 25 star bit.

The lower steering wheel cowl trim has 3 fasteners. The front and rear fasteners are the same size, 25 star bit, and these secure the trim to the steering column. The centre fastener is a size 24 star bit and holds the upper and lower cowl sections together.

I need to replace the in/out screw as per meerbush, where is that on the photo?

The in/out screw (reach motor) is not shown in my pictures but you can see if when all of the above is removed, however it is harder to get at. Discovery 4 HSE

I'm taking the cowl off the steering later but cannot find a T24 size torx head anywhere as you listed for the cowl fastener.By any chance was it a typo and it was a T20 size

Where did you pick up that size tool for the job...?,need to get some longer reach Torx bits later

There's no such size as a T24 [1] so assume it's a mistake. But if you have a set of Torx bits (always handy) then just find the size which fits

Thanks Martin,have a set but they wont reach as the cowl gets in the way.Need to get some longer reach ones for the job,will report back later

Coincidentally, I was puzzling over the T24 reference for the screw that holds the two parts of the cowl together, but I tried a T20 on a long 1/4" drive socket extension, and it was the correct size. I searched everywhere I could think of to buy a T20 screwdriver with about 6" of reach, before I gave up, and then I found all the components I needed in my Halfords Socket set
The original write up by RRUK was otherwise excellent by the way.

Got the shroud off.Used 2 Teng torx screwdrivers and the sizes are T20 x 1 and T25 x 2.
