I thought that all the cigarette lighter sockets ran off the same fuse in the cubby hole in the boot, however, I've checked fuse No.71 (20a) and it's fine and the middle and rear sockets both work but the front one doesn't. It was working ok on Friday but stopped yesterday after a few days of running my new solar trickle charger on it!

So is there a separate fuse for the front socket, because I'm damned if I can find it? Cheers

You've got the correct fuse.
Probably a connection problem in the socket.
Have you tried a multi-meter to check for voltage and earth at the socket?

try something else in the socket to make sure its that that has gone. ... - .- -.

OK - can someone explain this?

As suggested by Stan, I tried a 12v air compressor in the front socket and it works, without the ignition on. However, the cigarette lighter itself doesn't work in the socket whether the ignition is on or not, but it does work in the lighter socket in the rear of the vehicle!

Am I doing something really dumb here? How can it be that the compressor will work in the front but the lighter won't?  Cheers

Not sure I understand you Stan. In what way are they different? Just to clarify, I am putting the 12v air compressor in the front ciggy lighter socket and it works, but when I put the ciggy lighter itself (which belongs there!) in the same socket it doesn't. But the lighter works in the socket behind the driver's seat.

i think its to do with the depth of the socket which will [if shallow] activate the ciggy lighter but wont in a deeper socket...hope that makes sense... ... - .- -.

Ah, I see. That does seem to ring a bell from a problem I had a while back on an old Discovery.

However, that still doesn't explain why the ciggy lighter has stopped working in the front socket, but works ok in the rear one. Unless of course it never worked in the front one! I'm not a smoker so I have never tried using it  Cheers

I'm sure they are on different fuses anyway. I found out that just one of the four cabin sockets were working on mine (left rear). The rest were off. I fund a dud fuse in the boot box which will have hopefully fixed them all. (I forgot to check ) My Previous RR's!
