New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

The guy probably doesn't care. He will probably happily drive it himself if it doesn't sell and maybe end up keeping it.

By the way, does the UK have something on classic cars where road tax and insurance become really cheap after 25 years or so ? Holland has no roadtax for cars over 25 years and insurance is dirt cheap for those cars. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

No, it stopped for cars newer than 1972 or something stupid and was never extended again which is a big shame for some good 80's cars and now 90's cars that would likely still be on the road for free tax and cheap insurance...

Though some classic car companies will take onboard 80/90's cars as they know they are classics, aka Activa, CX, BX, XM, RRC, Disco 1's.... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

They were brilliant bikes, way ahead of their time. Shame the replacement 1300 wasn't much good.

England 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Santorini Black

Still hunting, but I'm down to a shortlist of 2 (quite different) cars and getting very close to putting a deposit down (by the end of the weekend, I expect).

One is a 1993 black Porsche 968 manual with black leather, the other is a 2000 black Jag XKR with ivory leather.

Both are over the original budget (obviously) - the Porsche more so than the Jag.

The Jag has spaceship miles (160k) but a very solid main dealer history - one owner from new until 2012, bought and serviced at the same Jag dealer - and the guy I'm buying from has had it the 18 months or so since the original owner upgraded. It's due a service, but that's fine - my friendly local LR indy, who look after my FF, are also a Jaguar specialist (as many are).

In fact, the current owner also has an L322 - he says he's registered as a forum member but not been on for a long time - which makes me want to buy his Jag even more!

However the only reason I haven't parted with my cash already is that when the original owner bought his new XKR (from the same Jag dealer again!) in 2012 he obviously transferred his private number plate on to the new car - and the dealer's computer system appears to have over-written the old cars details meaning they only have detailed service records for the new car!

So the dealer has been able to confirm that the car was indeed bought and serviced religiously with them every year since new (they know the car and the owner well) but they can't confirm what was done at each visit.

I have also called Jag customer services UK (who were excellent) and they called the dealer again for me to see if they could dig any job cards out using the VIN. Seems that the system is flawed - records are held against the VRN not the VIN - which seems ridiculous, but is apparently the case.

The issue this gives me is that the current owner has the service book, but no invoices for works done - so there's no way to tell if the timing chain and tensioners have been replaced. Given the 160k on the clock, and the perfect service record of the car, they're almost certain to have been done at some point but nobody can say for certain. The issue is that it's a big expensive job to do. If it hasn't been done, it needs doing as you often get no warning - the car is perfect one day and then the next the plastic tensioners can fail, the chains just let go and the result is a dead car requiring a new engine.

So - it's booked in at a local (to the vendor) Jag specialist as apparently you can pop a cam cover off and visually you can normally tell if it's had the chain etc replaced. That's happening Sat morning, at my cost. They're also going to give the car the once over for me and the vendor is totally happy with that (which is a good sign). If it's had the chains done, I'm buying it. If it hasn't, I might still buy it, but will do so knowing it needs doing and I'll haggle a little (lot) harder with the vendor.

The Porsche has a solid history too but is quite a lot more expensive than the Jag - although I'd expect it to be more depreciation proof, so I'm less worried about spending a little more as I think I'm likely to get much of it back if I sell in a year or two.

We'll see.....

This came on to Autotrader this morning. (I'm checking it, and Pistonheads, and eBay and a few others every day)!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...?logcode=p

I rang them immediately to arrange a viewing.

The guy said he'd call me back as he was driving at the time I called. He didn't. Just rang him again. Someone called after me (when he'd stopped I'm guessing!), drove over to see it, bought it.

1 owner from new, full Jag history and the condition looks glorious! Plus BRG is a proper Jag colour. Big Cry

May also go and see this tomorrow, it's relatively local to me -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-944-Turb...20d487870c

It's missing its service book due to the original owners business being repossessed, but has a file of receipts etc. Guy reckons there's an outside chance that they may still get the history back once the liquidators have done their stuff as it's possibly in amongst all of the paperwork that was seized.

Looks clean and that's sensible money for a Turbo... Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...
