Dealer discount??

Anyone got experience of dealer discounts. Do they knock much off main dealer used stock, is it worth haggling or not? Anyone got experience of good or bad (zero) discounts?

The only reason I ask is I'm looking at one that's up at 29980, but I only have 27k! Is that a bridge too far do you think or should I go in hard and see what happens.......

Shocked DEALER DISCOUNT? - Laughing HAHA HAAA HAAAAA HA HA Rolling with laughter HO HO HA HAAHHAA - AHH STOP IT - MY SIDES ARE SPLITTING!!! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Sorry hoppy_70, but the word DISCOUNT ain't in their vocabulary - no harm in asking of course, you may be lucky - would be interested to know their response to your request of them knocking £3000 off the sale price without good reason.

Main dealer markup is usually between £5-6K, which seems a lot, but - without meaning to defend them, they usually have to spend £1K reconditioning the car, then offer warranties and pay V.A.T and comissions - so only about half of their mark-up is potential profit.

If you haggle hard - you may get a few hundred £'s off or the offer of wheel upgrade, road tax etc. but I imagine they would rather sit you down, go through their fabulous (ly extortionate) funding packages and probably waste your time, hoping that you give in and pay the difference just so you can leave the showroom.

Rumour has it that recent months Land Rover Inc. have had record sales figures and are now struggling to find their usual pre-owned stock, therefore are now listing slightly older vehicles or above average mileage examples, whereas before, these would normally be shipped off to auction for a quick turnaround.

I would also suggest that you may have a better chance of a deal towards the end of the month (due to salesperson set targets) rather than the beginning / or give the impression that you have your eye on another car at another dealer and you just can't decide between the two - hinting that the other is offering a better deal Whistle ... Depends how convincing you are I s'pose.

Thumbs Up Good luck however, I really hope you get lucky - What spec is the car?

Previously I've managed to get around 1k off used stock... but they are now short of stock with the huge sales boom. So don't expect much of a discount at all.

Athough it never hurts to ask... the answer is likely to be a no or they may offer to knock 500 pounds off max on a vehicle of that value I'd have thought.

If you are buying outright and not part exing, wouldn't it be worth waiting for prices to stabilise a bit?
They seem to be at an all time high right now.

For info, I found a FFRR in February on the approved used site. Told my local dealer I'd buy it if they could get it down from Yorkshire (to Essex) but the dealer with it wouldn't let them have it as they were so short of stock.
In my experience that's quite unusual as I've bought two Land Rovers the same way before and had no problems.

This is true:

I found a 5yr old D3 with 95K being sold via the dealerships.

They are selling FFRR with over 75K on the clock and up to the original 02 plate L322's. There is even a P38 51 plate for sale at the moment Discovery 4 HSE

depends on the dealer and the deal they bought the used vehicle in at, I once bought a 12 month old RR and yes did get £3k off, other times managed to only get around £1 to £1.5K - have nanaged to squeeze a bit more in real terms by getting extras thrown in FOC or at cost. It also depends if you have a trade in, cash deal or finance. Sometimes if the delaer is doing finance he has more room to play with...

nothing ventured nothing gained, whats the worst he can say! go in hard and haggle - your the one with the ££££££

the only problem is at the moment its a false market - not many S/H vehicles around due to bloody GORDY!

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Not sure what to do now. I don't want to buy on the crest of a wave, only to find the arse has fallen out 4 months down the line. Prices are inflated at the moment, I bought my last range rover at the bottom of the price drop for 19k ( for a 3 year old vogue). The same car would be 30k today!

That's why I am out in the short term. Back in when those prices fall.

Just out of interest , I have always got a discount off every 2nd hand car I have ever bought, the FFRR being no exception. The FFRR was up at £46,000 screen price, so I got £2000 off (was trying for £2500 but they couldn't go to that) and also traded my old car in as part of the deal. Did it on a Land Cruiser years ago aswell, when 4x4s were more specialist purchases - it was just coming into summer so no one in those days wanted a 4x4 for summer, just convertibles, so I got £1000 off a £11,800 car and also said my only issue was lack of space on the drive to park it, so they took my mums old Ford Escort in part-ex to secure the deal. Unless it's a brand new model coming out and they have no reason to discount due to demand, there's never any reason to pay the sticker price. You guys need to haggle more, there's always another dealer somewhere who does want the business and probable follow up servicing profits. Very Happy Steve

If I was you mate, I'd just walk in and be honest - say what you've got, and that's all you've got. Its worth a roll of the dice, and you never know what's going on with the dealership/salesman that morning/afternoon.

I've picked up a few cars over the years by just being honest and offering up the max of what I had at the time.

Personally I dont think these inflated prices will alter till Summer 2011, as they remain strong over the winter months typically. Just my best guess...

Gave up on the dealers who didnt have much stock to go at anyway...
