That's an issue with that site, I spent a while trying to buy a CL500 a few years ago and found loads advertised on there that were actually sold.

Juts need to persevere I guess, and check it daily... Graham

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Bonatti Grey

JF your only 6 years older than me :p

Trust me, give one a try and you'll love it. The fact they were so quick as standard as to beat a SC Range Rover should be enough and by god the acceleration doesn't stop there Very Happy

I had a 330bhp low boost monster that i stupidly sold years back.
LPG
FMIC
GT28Rs
V2 upgraded ECU ROM
Some better boost hoses
Koni shocks and dampers(adjustable) all round

The thing really got going and never had a massive push in the back with the bigger turbo but had a nice solid boost curve that would take you a hell of a way upto speed. Once saw 172mpg on a GPS speedo and backed off... They tend to lift at that speed and higher!!
The 6 Speed ones had issues that seemed to affect german owners more and was generaly thought to be a gearbox heat issue from sustained high speed runs again and again. The engine used the same block and some other bits as the 2.4jtd and some mad sods got theirs bored out to 2.5litres and some crazy crazy power figures for not a massive but still pricey sum of money and ended up with porchse brakes front and rear to keep them safe and nice big 18" and wide wheels and tyres for grip!
To say it was based on a Tipo and had a little bit of body flex they cornered quite well and with Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's up front i loved mine and while it never handled as good as my Reno's or Activa it was still a good motor Smile

Why not look at a V6 Xantia Acitva?? Rare as hell and you'll not find much to keep up with you in the corners Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

England 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Santorini Black

What a great way to waste hours upon hours of our lives!

Love the suggestions Campaj - the XKR, SL500, Alfa and Boxster all fit the bill (other than having had 2 Boxsters already, so want something I've not owned before) - the Mazzer totally would, but the budget is £4,500 rising to £5,500 for something a bit special! (Actually - wouldn't want a left hooker, so that particular Alfa is out).

Gutted about that XKR - if it had driven roughly in a straight line, I'd have bought it immediately!

Mini and 3 series too boring and the Lancia is a great car, but I'm scared to own one...(where's your nearest Lancia specialst?!)

Pleb - you're not going to sell me sir! This isn't about BHP or 0-60 times, it's almost entirely a heart purchase- I want something nice to look at, querky, historic, emotive. All of which are subjective traits, I know.

No matter how rapid a Fiat is...I'm afraid it's still a Fiat - I'd never forgive it a single fault.

An iconic white 1980s Porsche on the other hand I'll forgive a whole heap of misdemeanours (which is likely to be a very good thing)! Rolling with laughter Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Oh - and I'm going to ignore the Chrysler.

E55 stonkingly good car, but not quite the GT / sports car I'm after. Wink Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Its so true! No better way to waste time online though!

Glad u like 'em, I thought double the budget was pushing it!

The XKR looked like a steal, gutted for you as well! Don't discount XK8s though, they are great waftmobiles, but nowhere near the urgency of an XKR. Weaker gearboxes too.

Oh, careful here, I drive an MPI! I get that those two are slightly predictable choices tho!

Yeah, Lancia probs not the best for reliability! Another left-hooker as well!

haha it was my wild card!

As an E55 owner, I'd say you're wrong. But you wouldn't expect me to say anything else. Still, I'll smile smugly knowing you're really missing out. Mr. Green

Then again, considering your GT/sports criteria, it's not a clear candidate as I view what you're after as having 2 doors.

At your budget, I'd rule out a Maserati as I think you could be spending more time fixing it than driving it. The only one appearing on Auto Trader is a T-plate Quattroporte. Too quirky. Too many what-ifs with that.

OK, here's another wild-card entry. Capri 2.8i. Classic, GT, rwd, rare (these days), reliable, cheap to run and fix, will appreciate if looked after, fun to drive... I'd buy one today if I had a garage to put one in. Probably.

But, if I'm honest, I'm with you on the Porsche front. A decent 928S4 would be more appealing, but it would also be in another financial league. The 944/968 hasn't (yet) been disturbed by classic status price hikes, but I suspect it won't be far off. Buy one now before it happens.

(Then bring it round to my house and let me have a go...) Bow down Laughing Si. <This is my name.

I eat rat poison.

The trouble with all these GT's (and I'm a fan of them) is they're all IMC's*, especially the Mercedes.

We used the term kpp : Kleine Pikken Porsche (small dick Porsches) and we coined it after someone with a 944 who tried using it as a p*ssy magnet (unsuccessfully I might add) !!!!!! Maybe that is where my anti 944 feeling comes from. Also I had a workmate with a 944 Turbo that cost him a bloody fortune to fix all the problems he had with it (ex Californian car). Cost him more than buying a better/newer one in Holland in the end.

Like most on this thread I also had a nice relaxing windowshopping trip on Autotrader last night and I would still go for a 928, preferably an S4 (without the go faster wing of course). But for 928s are an old itch that hasn't been scratched yet Smile.

Did you see the wheeler dealers one on a 928. All galvanised and still in great condition. Yes, the S4 is the one to go for. I'd rather have a more modern car though.
