On mine, if you only open the boot using the 'Land Rover' button, the the boot automatically locks when closed - very dangerous for locking keys in, I've nearly done it on a couple of occasions 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car! |

It is the same on my car, unlock only the boot and it will relock when you close it. I keep my keys in my pocket when I do that, to prevent the "oops". MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Good reason to simply unlock the car rather than boot.... |

I had my keys knicked with my jacket when I was abroad & phoned the land rover assistance guys, they met me at the airport and got in the car by prising open the top of the tailgate slightly, fishing out a few wires and then using a wire with 2 sharp probes he shorted out the tailgate lock, then he crawled in and did something with the transmission to allow it to be put in N to get it on the tow truck, he said there is no other way of getting in, I had forgotten to pick up the spare key from the dealer so had to hire a car and drive 150 miles to get it |

I think that cutting a spare blade, just the blade, would be a smart move and either keep it in your wallet of find a safe and secure spot on the outside where you can stick it in case of emergency. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
