Daughters new car

Hi all,
The daughter needs a new car to go back to uni,got to be smallish with 5 doors with a small diesel engine, cheap tax and cheap on insurance as she is a new driver Whistle.
Was thinking of of a Yaris or a Fiesta, any suggestions would be welcome. Thumbs Up gone fishin'

No brainer - Panda Multijet.
We've run one for the last 4 1/2 years - It's regularly caned to within an inch of it's life and never drops below 57mpg. We usually get 62 though !
Plus:
No cambelt - chain driven
No EGR
No DMF
No DPF (pre 2010)
Bulletproof and a giggle to drive . . .

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Students have such a good choice now. When I was at uni it was a metro, a mini or a fiesta, and they were all utter crap compared to a modern super mini.

don't you believe it; most of them don't have cars at all now thanks to insurance!

Ok, they have a far better choice of cars, even if they can't drive them. Very Happy

My first car was a beetle, and Missus had a (classic shape) mini
Wonder what the insurance is on those these days. So cheap & simple ...

Though I guess the underwriters are bothered on what a new driver can drive in to Laughing

SWMBO has a Fiat 500 which i think now comes in a 5 door model, you can get a diesel engined one too.
It isn't a bad car, quite good spec - air con, leather, voice control, ipod socket, half glass roof.
I wouldn't mind driving it but its just a little underpowered for my taste.
It is a comedy moment getting out of a FF and into a Fiat 500 though... Laughing

At 17 is 'classic car' cover an option, on something like an old style Mini ? or do you need to be over a certain age.
