Sounds just like the fuel pump. How full or empty is your tank? When mine is below 1/4 it is hot and miss getting it going. A new in tank pump is on my 'to do' list, but I keep it full in the mean time. |

It can do as if the fuel level is below the hump in the tank, and the pump is weak, you can end up with no fuel on the pickup side. The pump uses a Venturi system to pull the fuel over the hump and this is the first sign of trouble. If you put half a tank in it and it still won't start, you may have a completely stuffed unit, but they usually give plenty of notice.

A mate is fiddling with a pick up system at the moment and is fitting a cheap generic Bosch pump that costs half of the BMW unit. Not the easiest fit, but it works fine and costs less than $100AU IIRC. I'll see if I can get the pump details if anyone is up for the same fiddling if they wanted to save a few bucks. This is the way I'm going to repair mine, but I'm just waiting for him to finish his, and he'll pass on the pick up from his tank for me to modify. I'll then pass this onto the next guy, etc. |
