Ok 5000 miles pa in heavy city traffic...how much better off given the current fuel prices would the tdv8 be over the SC?

Lets just say for cost reasons both cars were 17k and the the maintenance and road tax were identical so were looking purely at the cost of fuel per year. Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

My estimate for 5000 miles heavy city:

TDV8: £1650ish
SC: £2350ish.....

Rough guide 5-6 MPG difference (14 to 20)

In heavy city traffic I'd go SC 10 to 12 mpg, TDV8 19 to 22 mpg
That's what I have had! Your lucky to get over 15 / 16 out of any petrol RR unless you are doing longish trips and drive like a fart to get the figures up

That's IF you can get into Edinburgh city centre these days. We used to park at the bottom of the castle, next to the park just off Princes Street or the road leading up to the castle before they restricted the parking there, but gave up the last two years and took the Park n' Ride.

Depending on traffic i think it could be more like 8 - 14mpg

Your forgetting the biggest thing, it depends how quickly you want to get up to speed.

the low down grunt of a TDV8 is great for the citys with its auto box.

If you can get the AGM type battery fitted to it then at least you can save fuel by switching the engine off when you know you'll have to wait more than 20seconds at any junction/lights... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I always think that MPG is not quite so relevant if you are only doing a few city miles a day. Thats what makes the Petrol V8's great City Cars

4 miles a day:

Diesel 20 MPG
Petrol 12 MPG

not real life mpg but the official mpg figures will give you some idea re the difference between the two.. ... - .- -.

Good taste with costa though, but coffee.... Hmmm ill stick to a grande hot choc with marshmallows, whipped cream and sprinkles... Enough sugar to get you over the morning low and then a large custard cream and caramel slice for the afternoon/evening pick me up!

TBH there will be some difference but dont forget the cost of the actual fuel as well being lower...

if its such low milage and say you get 350 from an SC and 450 from a TDV8 thats the same as

14 Fillups in the SC
11 Fillups in the TDV8

14 fillups would cost £1892
11 fillups would cost £1543

so saving a whopping £349 per annum or giving you 2 extra tankfulls of go go juice should you want to go for a blast out in the wilds...

TBH i dont think those ranges per tank full would be to far adrift though maybe knock another 50miles off each one if its quite heavy stop start stuff... Oh and in winter the TDV8 will use more juice as well as the SC would warm up quicker it would use its FBH less as the engines create more waste heat than the diesels but not so much as to make a massive difference but one to be aware of  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Good question but TBH once you are in one of these beauties (and developed a coping mechanism for their issues) then you won't give a damm.

I have 4.4 2003 giving 18 mpg average. Happy with that.
