Yes, the plate. Some history there with the previous owner.

The car's in Cardiff and (I'm not into football, so please excuse my ignorance here), Cardiff City football club have or had a goalkeeper called Olly? Or something like that? Anyway, this S/C was his, hence the plate. He has the plate title and I'll get an 07 plate or, more than likely, transfer my FF's private plate across.

Aah! Googled him. Ollie Schulz, apparently.

Confused me as well when I first saw it. Si. <This is my name.

Yes, this will be done. I have some friends who own a LR repair workshop / Longlife exhaust franchise in Suffolk who will do this. They say it's a pretty brutal operation but highly effective. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

There are different pulleys. A 1.5 psi increase doesn't require any mods to the SC and gives a nice wake up to the engine. The 2.5-3 psi pulleys require metal to be removed from the supercharger snout.

Which is the better / most reliable one to go for? Which one did you get? Si. <This is my name.

I went for the 1.5lbs coupled with a sports exhaust (including hi-flow cats) and a custom induction kit (wider bore intake) then had it remapped. However I had the pulley done first and I could instantly feel a difference. The car would pull stronger from lower down in the revs and felt like it had the "lag" (the wait before the power arriving in the rev band) removed.

As the pulley simply changes the speed the supercharger is spinning at any particular point, I'd go for the 1.5 as the FFRR is tuned for torque and low end grunt, rather than the Jags which are tuned a bit more for high-end power. In terms of value for money the 1.5 pulley is better too as to modify the supercharger snout means taking off the supercharger to grind it which is a good 6-9+ hours of labour on top of a job that already takes 3-4 hours. Once you get past 4500 rpm the gains lessen as the Eaton is already near it's max efficiency anyway so it's midrange the pulleys really affect.

The ECU adapts very quickly to the change as well and won't require a remap unless you get the cats changed. The stock exhaust is massively damped compared to a custom one, and you'd have to have a good think before you changed that as it's a lot louder (although I do like that).

OK, that's the 1.5psi one decided upon then. Thanks! Thumbs Up

I recall a few S/C owners recommending a K&N filter improves things. Confused Si. <This is my name.

K&N can improve things a little bit, but a custom intake (or even the Mina Gallery one) will make it roar when you get over 4k RPM as well as make the engine a bit more perky. Not the best for off-road unless you have some foam covers to put over to keep the sludge off the cotton filter.

My ITG filter (kinda like K&N but foam instead of cotton) slipped inside the air box and allowed small amounts of muck into the intake tube. Fortunately I noticed a difference and corrected it, although I am still rather horrified at that happening!

I had an ITG filter for my Supercharged Sport back in the day, it made a subtle difference to the intake noise, a bit growlier, and I never had any issues with ingress past the filter.

If the filter was bone dry then maybe but if it's kept oiled properly with the light oil spray stuff it should be fine. Discovery 4 HSE

Now you mention it I was considering a twin screw supercharger upgrade at some point in the future. That should loosen off around 600+ bhp. Think the MPG might take a dive after that though ....

You talk of MPG, but here's a thing. My E55 AMG Estate (5.5 V8 naturally aspirated - 360bhp) did 28mpg following my 300Tdi 110 back from Suffolk at the weekend at 80mph. My 110 did less than 25mpg on that same trip. The E55 was strolling along whilst my 110 was at a quick gallop.

The dealer told me that (their opinion be it sales patter or fact) a S/C won't be that much costlier to fuel on a long trip than a TDV8 at a steady speed. I'm not convinced, but then I really don't care. Twisted Evil Si. <This is my name.

This is kind of my experience too with diesel vs petrol. Where the mpg really does take a dive is in towns though. I've always found big V8 petrol engines to be quite frugal when on a long motorway run. Especially if you stick to 70mph and don't play in the A4, 1-Series and C-Class lane.

For example, I had a 730d for a while. I replaced it with a 750i. On a long run I would get 40mpg from the 730d. The 750i would return about 35mpg on the same run. On the flip side though, the 730d would average about 30mpg with a good mix of town and motorway whereas the 750i dropped to about 18mpg.

I always tend to get much better mpg figures than quoted out of my petrol cars on long runs. Mainly because I just stick the cruise on at 68mph and relax. My reasoning is that if I am resigned to driving on a long, boring motorway, I might as well relax and enjoy the comfort than try to get there a few minutes sooner.

Bone stock 4.2 SC after a full service by a dealer did 23mpg to Le Mans which was a mix of 70mph / 85mph cruise control due to the time of day we went. We were 5 up with a ton of camping gear too, which was surprising on the mph. I did do a 3 hour then 4.5 hour stint driving though, so no stopping or vicious acceleration helped. If you look at my Fuelly that is an accurate measurement of a incrementally tuned V8 over 12 months. I get around 18-19mpg driving Leeds to Sheff and back again if I take it easy. If I get irate that can quickly drop to 14-16mpg, which isn't that hard to replicate stock. My car runs richer than stock though, so you'd probably manage 15-17mpg when booting it round town after a motorway run.

If your dealer said you'd get better than anything over 25 then I'd head back with the Sales of Goods act and complain about it not being described accurately. You'd have to drive like a complete god botherer at 55mph to get anything near that unfortunately.

Well, tomorrow's the day of collection.

My current FF has a fresh MOT (flew through that) and a new windscreen (cracked on the way home from Cardiff, annoyingly) and has just enough fuel in the tank to get us the 130 miles there. Maybe. I hope.

Insurance is sorted and I'm preparing myself to find fault with my new S/C but really hope I won't.

The dealer emailed me a few days ago and complimented me on my enthusiasm and excitement. He said that very few RR buyers show any excitement when buying and collecting and that it baffled him why they're not like kids in s sweet shop. Si. <This is my name.
