FFRR --> SD4 Freelander

The caravan will be going at the end of the summer, Mrs T has decided she'd like to change the FF for a freelander. She likes the SD4 sport, looking at new or nearly new.

Any experiences?

My van has gone and need to reduce fuel costs as running back and forward to France all the time now. FF great as a comfy van for hauling stuff out to new abode but fuel costing me over £300 ( nearly £400) for a round trip its cheaper to fly! so looking at the same sort of idea.
Had older freelanders which were s*** but nice to drive been on the freelander forum just browsing. so any feedback would be helpful. Mine was a blue one! Smile

They aren't bad vehicles. To be honest i'd plump for an XS or HSE and see about a BAS remap for it.
Stick to the manual box but if the clutch feels like its not got much life in it bank on getting it changed and swap to a NON-DMF flywheel and clutch setup.

more info here
www.freel2.com and a helpful if not quieter bunch than here Smile

They go quiet well and tyres are a bit cheaper, stick to the 18's for comfort and handling compromise, handling go for 19/20's or real comfort and any offroad stuff the 17's Smile

the 2.2 engine is a good one but stay ontop of maintenance, as always with any diesel i reccomend changing engine oil well before the service point as its cheap enough to do if you DIY.

IRD's sometimes give issues I believe but not too often, i guess it depends on how much its been used.

If its ever towed find out what it towed as you do see some BIG things being towed by them which can never be good for them really despite the ratings..
Go for an 18-24month one and you will get a much better spec for your money, save on any niggles and bag yourself a fair amount of cash as well.
Take a long drive in one though and see if you could really cope with the downsize as it is and feels a lot smaller inside. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Andy for you I'd be tempted to get an old Citroen C5 estate as they are dirt cheap, if you break down in France almost every garage can fix it and will enjoy working on it more, and the fuel savings are another leap over the Freelies. 50+mpg from the 2.0HDi units is not to be sniffed at and the cheaper exclusive models have CC and good AC and incar setup and leather is easy and cheap to add to them (heated and electric Smile ) FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You should try a good C5 then Smile Exclusive gets Hydractive 3+ which is great and they soak up the miles even better than a Xantia and a touch more economical Smile

Theres a few on the bay for about £700< though most are V6's they would still be cheaper than an FF lol!! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
