Not an expert but I have a Pentax bridge camera with an evf.
I bought it deliberately as it had an evf but to be honest I hardly ever use that function, as you rightly sumise the lcd screen is bright enough to use even in bright sunlight.
The one advantage of the evf is that you can hold the camera more securely whilst using it than holding it looking at a screen. The quality of the image in the evf is a bit dubious but it does allow you to frame the picture better, although with editing software readily available that's not so important these days.
Tbh it depends what you want to use the camera for and the quality of the images you want.
Nice to have it available but not absolutely necessary imo.
