Oil change in diff's

Is it worth changing the oil in the front and rear diff's

If so what's the correct oil and best place to buy from RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

JR
I asked a similar question a few months back (Cant find the post now), have a search

One handy tip I picked up was to ensure you loosen the fill plug first, incase you drain the diff then cant undo the fill plug Big Cry

Havent got round to doing it yet though

I replaced the transfer box oil and oil in both diffs today in my 4.2 S/C.

Based on the stuff that came out, there is a very strong case for replacing these more regularly than recommended. I understand the recommended interval is 150k. Mine has just done 150k and the oil was badly burnt and degraded, separating out into two layers in the container after they were drained.

The magnetic drain plugs we covered in a thick waxy black deposit some 5mm thick as well assome metal filings.

The changes are easy to do and well worth it.

Planning to do mine in the next couple of weeks as well... Have the FFRR for about a month now and so far no complaints but will conduct some preventive maintenance soon. Next to the diff's will tackle the gearbox as well... Better safe then sorry and also curious to how the fluids look like since I do not know if they have been changed before. Mike.

Just had mine done as part of last service, even though according to the service sheet it's a 10 year interval item.
They hold 1.1 litres of oil I was advised but my service bill showed 2 litres.

Part number listed is IYK500010 £15.61+VAT per litre.

Hope this info helps

Jr............for the Diffs just use a good 75w90 API GL-5 oil, like.......Triple QX EP 75w90 Transmission Fluid Fully Synthetic 1 Litre (1L) API GL-4 GL-5.......you can ge this for less than £8 a litre........dont get too hung up on the make of oil its whats inside that counts just check the label

I bought my oil from the dealer by the litre.

The transfer box oil was labelled as Transfer box oil. The diff oil just had auto transmission oil on the label. Both were genuine LR oils.

FYI the transfer box seems to have a marker that works out when it's at 100% life, mines showing 80% currently but I wouldn't bet on it being totally right and I reckon only 2 or 3 diagnostic tools can reset that number Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
