I would have thought the SC were in freefall? I def see a premium on the 35th but by how much and post 150k how desirable do you think they'll be to normal punters given the upkeep costs? Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

anyone know what milage one could get out of a SC post 150k?

What big bills are looming (inc gearbox) or are the engines fairly bulletprooof?

Ive never ran anything post 150k but if i do buy this car it'll be a 3rd car keeper so wanted to hear back from other high milage SC oweners of waht to expect north of 150k?

I think it is very difficult to say. The AJV-8 engine seems to be very sturdy from what I read around the net and the ZF box also (although I have issues with my gearbox at only 50,000 mls).

I think that you may have to give the engine, box, diffs, suspension, brakes etc. some TLC, like new fluids, seals, hoses and the likes. The suspension air bags may be due as well I guess. I'm hoping that I can turn mine into a long termer (20/30 years or so) and see the same happen as what is happening with good classics now. You may want to do the same, turn it into an oldtimer over the years ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Age is the concern with airbags, say 7years and they will go one by one so budget for a set or at least replace in pairs.

Also the gearbox and diffs and transfer box should be flushed and new fluid in and the coolant as well as i bet its never been done at 3years as it should have been!!
Rubber hoses to the rad as well and the coolant rad for the box should be looked at being replaced when the coolant is done just as a precursor so your box doesn't end up mixing coolant and oil..

Rear rose buses as well and front track rod ends and lower wishbones. Also look at the bearings needing doing as well with those miles/age.

Exhaust could be another item as petrols rust from the outside and inside nicely.. Battery as well if it is still original needs to have a nice 110ah unit squeezed in there Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks for the heads up...very informative. I am looking to perhaps keep the can for at least another 10 years if I were to buy it.

Front struts for an SC are 249.99 each at Island 4x4. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Simple,

Buy the car and stick £150 a month into an ISA, then when things break you can replace them as needed, or when you have enough saved up, get the rad, coolant and gearbox done and flushed.
Then the diffs and transfer box.
Then wait for the battery and bags to go.

Also if the rear arches aren't already rusting get the SSRR rear arch covers to protect them from rusting for as long as possible.
Then at the same time injector the lower part of the upper boot lid with loads of waxoil to stop it from rusting out as well.. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.

Anyone done this work reciently in terms of "rad, coolant and gearbox done and flushed.
Then the diffs and transfer box. " much did this cost? Are the gearboxes not sealed for life?

There is no aparent signs of rust on the car including the lower tailgate. Any more info on preventing rust on this area and rear arches? I prob sure there is somthing on here?

As for the suspension how much is it to replace the bags in pairs?

On the subject of gear boxes Land Rover claim that ZF HP6 box is sealed for life in Diesel FF but not in petrol although their is some confusion about when the box should be serviced . 2008 MY Supercharged

No gearbox or oil containing device with moving parts should ever be sealed for life! Least of all a gearbox or diff...

I think Eugene has done the coolant and flushing bits so could give you an idea on price and the source of fluids... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Big misconception, sealed for life is not sealed for life. Don't know of the top of my head but believe 100,000 mls or 10 years unless it has seen "heavy use" read, lot of high speed driving and towing.

On mine the trans cooler died mixing coolant and ATF. Cost to date around 500 Euro in materials and fluids (trans cooler plus filter and lots of ATF). Not a happy camper about that. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

2006 Range Rover Autobiography Supercharged Zambezi Silver

I've pretty much done all these tasks. Gearbox was the most expensive at about £300.00 (new oil, new sump and flush of cooler circuit)

The transfer box was about £40 in oil (need to buy 2 lites) and I'm about to do the diffs (again, need 2 litres) so about £40 for them.......

Coolant is not expensive, just got to follow the correct procedure to bleed the coolant circuit as the supercharged system is pretty complicated and can trap air.

I also changed both drive belts when I was at it as a precaution.........from memory, they were quite dear - almost £50 for both belts. Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

I did the drive belts as well. The Supercharger one when I got the car (I believe it is good for 100,000 kms) and the "accessory" belt has been replaced twice now, second time on the mechanics initiative as he didn't know I replaced it about 10,000 kms earlier. So I have a very good spare in the boot.

On the trans cooler, I suggest to replace it on the MY2006 models as they seem to have a manufacturing defect that due to internal corrosion causes them to fail. This failure is not limited to FFRRs but also on other brands that use this gearbox. I found out AFTER mine failed of course.

As for bleeding the cooling system, I know, I still have crap coming out on mine and it has been flushed and cleaned extensively Sad MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
