help - oil or something on the drive

Hi guys, I am probably the least technical/mechanically minded person on here, so someone give me the bad news ... fluid of some sort in small quantities being left all over my drive, from here -

Well, without wanting to state the obvious, if it's coming from there then it's probably power steering fluid Whistle

Are you sure it's not dripping down onto it from above? If not then it'll just be the seal on that joint.

Check PS fluid level then monitor to confrm.

From the photo it looks like the rubber gaiter has either split or come unclipped letting the grease dribble out.

Is the oil on the driveway more like small deposits of grease? - I only ask because that is all that the boot should contain and spill if damaged in any way.

If the deposits are more fluid, more of an oily liquid, then you have a problem elsewhere (PAS seal)and it is flowing from where ever the leak is, then on to your gaiter, before finding its way to your driveway.

If it is your gaiter then it isn't a disaster (but would fail M.O.T.) - but shouldn't be too expensive to fix.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Don't panic!

Open the bonnet and get a bright torch. Always look for the wet patch at it's highest point, (obviously) as a leak will drip down. Check to see where exactly the leak is coming from then you can begin to diagnose the issue.

I'm sure this is nothing serious, just a new seal needed at some point. Discovery 4 HSE
